Sea Strainers...
Looking for a set of cheap sea strainers on the 33 outlaw...ran into an instance 2 months ago where I ran through a sandbar at the local lake and it clogged the oil coolers and over heated the engines..I turned off the engines right away but now I'm hesitant to even go back to where the back part of the lake is because of the sand bar back there...I'm looking for a set of cheap sea strainers?
I found these online probably get the 1 1/4 set would these be sufficient enough for local lake cruising? http://www.skidim.com/prodinfo.asp?number=SHE18016 Thanks |

Sea strainers will not keep out sand and sediment. They keep out weeds, small twigs etc. If you know it is that shallow, stay away. The other option is for you to install water pickups that mount on the transom and get the water that way. You prbably have low water pick ups on the drives and that is causing this to happen.

Latham (I think) is marketing a SAND strainer. Do a search, and you should find it here on OSO.

The new Baja's with 600-700's come with Sea Strainers and do pull most of the sane out of the water going through the system. We run a river environment that is full of sand and small rocks. It has helped a great deal, however if you hit a sand bar again I am unsure if the strainers will be able to keep up the filtration process. Lataham, Eddie Marine, Stainless Marine are all places to look!

I have two Gil strainers that are in great condition. I have used these for three season and they work great. We are re-rigging my entire bilge and I have gone with billet units.
I cannot post a picture right now but if you look back at some of my threads there should be a picture on this site. Will be back home Sunday evening and if you are interested I'll sent you a picture and a price. |

Boatnt decided he did not have room in the engine compartment to mount them and he is sending them back. Let me know if you are still in the market.
