Need some help, whats it really worth?
Posted in general discussion also, but I thought Id try here also. Alright guys, need some help. Ive decided to put my boat up for sale. I put an ad or two out there and I think I priced it a little to high for what the market will bring right now. I just had the motor done top to bottom and priced it a little higher trying to possibly recoup some of the money I have in the motor.
Anyway, its a 1992 Baja Outlaw, 24 foot. Fresh 454 mag top to bottom built by a Baja dealer with about 6 hours run time on it if that, with all receipts. I was told it should be around 425 horse. Bravo one w/ ss 4blade, Corsa silent choice, Sony and Bose audio, Standard Horizons gps, 1993 Float On trailer, and all accessories. Boat is not in perfect condidtion , but very nice for the year. Has a few minor wear and tear blemmishes, but overall good condition. What can I realistically expect to get in this market? Also, in the southern states, do boat sales keep going year round, or do they start dying off just like up north? Thanks for the help. |
I just bought a 1993 Outlaw for 15,000. The boat has 340 hours on it and has a 454mag engine.

I would say you can get 10K but without seeing the boat hard to tell. Facts are your boat is 17 years old, that starts to really narrow the market. Kind of like what is a 1992 Vette worth with some blemishes and a rebuilt motor? This market is hurting you also.
In your situation if you are looking to buy another boat you would be better off to trade it in, and get retail value off the new boat? Just a thought? WILL:drink: |

What about you southern boaters, do boat sales die right off like they do up north here, or do they stay steady all year round? |

Boating continues down here almost year round. The market down here sucks as bad as it does where you live-----unless you want to give your boat away--as some have suggested. If you don't have to sell it--keep it--things will get better.

Ive seen it on craigslist. Try ebay. Bought mine that way.

Might have to give that a shot and just see what happens. Thanks for the response.

I would try EBAY immediatly. You will reach the most people that way. One thing I have learned in the past 10 years of using EBAY is that people are willing to travel to get what they want. Im in Ohio, and the first car I sold on there went to Seattle, the next to Louisiana, then NC, Chicago, and most recently Iowa........... Sold my brothers 29 Outlaw in Feb of this year, a buddys 25 Outlaw, my 220 Force, etc etc etc.
Make sure you have great pictures and a good write up. I think just about every car, truck or boat I have put on there has ended in a sale. |

Thanks for the response. Ive never sold on ebay, so I was apprehensive about trying it out. Ill have to look in to it and give it a shot and see what happens. For the most part did you get what you wanted for the item during the auction, or was it an after the end of auction sale?
The 29 Outlaw was sold after the sale. I think alot of buyers like to do that because they are not obligated to buy it then. I listed that boat thinking it would be a good way to stir some attention before spring not really thinking it was going to sell. |

Most of the cars ended in the auction, and about half of them was using the BUY IT NOW option. My Buy It Now was usually a little higher than my reserve price.

Keep it until Spring. unless you just need the money....should bring around 14 to 16K depening on how well it shows. I spent about $800 and put an updated graphics package on mine..covered up all the pastel colors and looked brand new...showed really well.

Now is about the worst time to be trying to sell a boat and the future does not look any brighter. Either take a bath on it or hang onto for another few years or trade. It looks like those are the only real options.

I went to Little Rock AK to get mine. 14 hrs.

Like others have said you will probably reach more people thru e-bay than anything else. I ran my boat on e-bay and had some action, but did not sell it.
|
Ebay is good. There is a slight bad as well. Lots of tire kicking phone calls....but in the end one may be a sale.
I bougth my first Baja on Ebay. I bougth my Wifes Grand prix on ebay. Boat was from New york. Bought sight unseen. The car was about 2 hr drive. Did view that. Good luck on your sale. Some of the less exspensive boat may sell quick. You never know what happens with a no reserve. But if inexperienced I would not try that.:ernaehrung004: |
I'll post a link to the before and after pics..I'll try to get that out today. Texas mobile Graphics did the work and recently did my pantera, which i may or may not have thanks to hurricane Ike. Chris at mobile graphics can take any photo or design and apply it to the reimage.

Heres the link to the photos of some before and after with new graphics. Tough economy but for a lil money if it gives and updated look to your boat for a minimal costs might make it easier to move. I sold mine for a lil over 13K on Ebay...looked like a 40K boat. Great place in Dallas that did my interior for roughly about 1K. Total cost on everything was less than 2K.
