20 Outlaw pics are up
Just visited Bajamarine's website and they have the photo's and spec's up for the 20 Outlaw now. Looks pretty cool! The one thing that I can't understand is why they only designed this boat to do low 60's. My Baja is smaller than the 20 Outlaw and will blow it out of the water.
Oh well, should be a fun first boat for someone:D :D |
From what I saw in those pictures, it may be the best looking boat in the fleet – albeit small. I would love to have a second boat. Perhaps that will be the one. When I bought the 29 I gave up my ability to boat at my parents place. They live lake-side on a medium sized lake out in Western Maryland. Maximum size for a V-hull on their lake is 26’. There are a couple of 27 Fevers on the lake that bend the rules. I wonder if they tell the Maryland DNR guys “Hey, it says 27 on the registration but it’s really just a 24 if you don’t count the beak!!” ;)

I think insurance pressure has caused boat builders to limit HP in smaller boats. That 20' Outlaw looks like it's going 100 when its standing still. That will make it a fun boat for you to spank with your 196. By the way my dad has a 1988 196 Sunsport. Awsome hull with a lot of calm water potential. I liked his boat so well I bought a 1990 210 Sport, which is the same bottom just stretched a little. Ours are highly tinkered with and run very well. What is the top end on your 196? |
The first Baja I had, I ordered in 1992 was a 204, I called the factory, begged, pleaded with them for a 350 or at least a 305, and was told no way. They tested it and were not ready to do that yet. I settled for the v6 with the 4-barrel. This was still a lot of fun!! The next year there it was with the 302. The next I believe year after that it was put out as a Outlaw. If you are interested I can dig out the catalog and post the page. My self I like the older more classic style.
I guess my point is it was a real nice performing boat already and I would love to take this new one out and see just how big a grin I can get. |
I thought they where going to be a kick butt little boat untill I was told by the local dealer this summer that you could only get a 5.0 in one. I hope that they will start offering bigger motors soon. Any body know what they run for$. I would think it would have to be considerably less than a Hammer. They don't seem to have all the bells and whistles that the hammer did. Plus they have a much smaller motor. Man that sure seems like a waste a one great looking boat.

Wette Vette,
Baja always has claimed to put the highest horsepower in class into their boats but the 20 Outlaw is a let down for sure. MY 196 runs out great on the inland lakes. It likes the small stuff and really flies in 1 footers. The highest that I have seen on GPS was 70.8 but I have only had a GPS on board a couple of times and only once by myself. I just ordered one to have on board for this year so I will see how consistant that speed is. My 196 is bone stock with exception of a nose cone and SS prop. Its plenty fast for the family and have no plans to do anything major to it. I cant imagine going as fast as you do in a 210 Sport. That must be a hell of a rush for sure:D I have been thinking of moving up in size but I dont want to loose the top end that I have now and to do that I will need alot of ponies and thus alot of cash. I do want something that I can hang out on Lake Michigan and be able to go play with the OSO crew around here when they go places. If I had more confidence in my job right now I would be looking hard but the Office furnature industry suck the big one right now so I will be staying with the 196 for this year. Make sure you post a pic of that 210 going all out. I would like to see if there is any part of that boat in the water at that speed:D |
It's a great little boat and looks sharp. I was impressed with the one I saw in Miami. I'm disappointed by the lack of bigger HP engine choices. If I remember correctly, the hammer was even offered with a 454 MAG...Mine had a 350 MAG.
What gives....??? |
Order one with no engine and put your own in

I think 29 outlaw has the right idea. I'm just wonering if they built the boat strong enough to handle the HP.
