? about the horn on a Baja 275

I have a question about the horn on my 275. You can barley hear it and if the exhaust is turned on then I can't even hear it. My question is the higher the db the better or the lower the db the beter? I'm thinking the higher ibe better but not sure. Do you have any better idea so my horn is louder?

The horns they put on these boats are a JOKE.

I replaced my factory horns twice and swore I would never do it again. It's bad when you have to strain your hears to try and hear it.

I went to the local auto parts store and bought a cheap under $20.00 dual trumpet air horn and mounted it behind the air intake vents to the engine compartment where it could not be seen but could be heard very well.

It has worked GREAT now for three years and gets every's attention! I like it so mush that we just added a second on the other side of the boat and I had the fatory holes up on deck glassed in.

Be safe and get a real horn or carry a compressed air horn at the helm that you can quickly access.

Dock out

Hi dock thanks. Can you post any pictures of how your horn looks on your boat? The work you having done on your boat looks great. Keep posting pictures on your re-birth of the Baja.

Your correct in thinking the higher the db rating the louder.

Here are a few. The horns come RED in color and I ran one pair like that a while. Adam suggested we paint them all black when he added the second set and I agreed that would look better and they would not stand out as much.

Thank you very much and I will keep the pictures coming as we move forward. It is 99% complete now and I hope we will be able to water test before the weather closes in around us.

Thanks Dock. Not sure if I could do something like that on ours. My vent cover is open with a hose for the air intake to the engine. But I might be able to place them in the engine compartment and mount them somewhere pointing towards the vent area and that might be loud enough.

I don't even know why they bothered putting in that horn. I have used it on errant jet skiers and they only see me once they hear the exhaust... the horn is useless. It is one of those things that I swore I would replace but haven't gotten to yet. I have a horn can on the boat in the dash in case I actually really need a horn until I get around to changing out what is there.

I found a horn in West Marine with 111db which I'm guessing is louder then the one I have which I might get for Christmas. Dock's idea sounds good but not sure if I could rig something up like that. I might just have to get the can horn for my backup.
