My First Baja

Was digging up some old school shots from way back and came across this.
My first boat. 1984 Baja Sport160. Rated for 115hp. Came with a chrysler 110 which I proceeded to destroy. Found a used 200 and added some other mods: hydraulic jackplate, bobs nosecone, new reeds, new carbs, re-did the interior, built a larger gas tank, custom trailer, etc.
Later, when the transom started cracking, had a custom plate built and through-bolted it. It held up surprisingly well.

Before I get flamed.... I know it's not offshore... -it barely qualified for small lake and river use!- but man it was a blast.

Lets see your old school stuff!!!!!
Off-shore, in-shore, on-shore.... who cares!
Bring it on.

Mike,

That's a great looking boat and is really wicked with that big motor one back. I like your buddy's boat also. I'm sure he was proud of that picture.

What's up with the floating dock?

Doc

Isn't that a trip? We built it that summer I think. There were 2 or 3 other docks out there but none as massive as ours. I think it was 16x24. We kept it out on the Potomac river north of Great falls at a place called Seneca. The cantilevered upper deck was my idea!

We called it the taj mahal. A true redneck riviera! But was an absolute blast. Anchored it out in the river with a 1/4" safety cable to the biggest group of trees we could find on shore. We would tow it under the aquaduct every fall and tie it up in the protected creek (Seneca Creek). And bring it out every year around april/may.

Unfortunately we lost it fall 2001. We didn't bring it into the creek early enough, got flooding rains, and the dock went over the falls.

Interesting note- there was a story on the local news about mysterious "blue barrels" floating past DC on the Potomac. This was approx Nov/Dec 2001 after 9/11. They were fearing the barrels could be terrorist related/chemical attacks etc. The blue 50 gallon drums were the dock flotation. They had no idea it was just us rednecks up river who neglected to sure up there junk before winter! Not proud of the littering that it caused, but a funny story none-the-less.

We later built a smaller (12'x16' or so) one just to have a place to hang. Last I heard it's still in tact and doing well.
