I seen this boat in the mold a couple of weeks ago, it was tough to tell all the exacts - VERY NICE!! (Great Pics)

Back in "the era":cool-smiley-027:, under all that metalflake, wasn't it tough to tell them apart??

Speaking of which, while I was at the Checkmate factory, they were building some new boats with metalflake stripes, and they looked pretty cool.

You guys are the ones doing the detective work here. No need to point out the obvious. :party-smiley-004:

It wasn't intended as a shot at you just used your post as a quote. They are discussion boards but people can draw their own conclussions and dont need to be told why they should like a certain product.

I like the new checkmate as it is an old Baja. If they would make a 25 OL with checkmate on the side of it I would probably buy one.

This is gonna hurt so read at your own risk.

Truth of the matter is Checkmate sales have fallen drastically (not only under Doug's reign but also long before Doug took over). The Checkmate styling is very niche oriented. The "hardcore-oldschool" Checkmate guys were buying a boat or two a month. That boat or two each month is not enough revenue to keep the doors open in the plant. They (Checkmate) are trying to chase boat sales just like every other builder in the country. The new stuff is going to help those doors stay open. The upshoot is as long as the doors are open you'll still be able to buy that "oldschool" Checkmate that you all love.

Anybody offended here, catch up with me this summer and I'll buy you a beer.

Exactly, as long as the doors are open you can still get the olds school boats. Now, the customer base just got a little wider, which is always good.

I was down there in Nov or Dec, it was a total blur as usual.

You need to drag that 252 up here to Baja Country! Have the boys at XT redo that cockpit, and I'll buff it top to bottom. We'll make it look like a new one!:ernaehrung004:

PH,

I have nothing but respect for the passion you have for your boat. Heck, none of use HAVE to buy these boats. They are a purchase that is driven only by the passion for the lifestyle, and the product. It's a matter of seeing a boat that you like, then you buy one, and then you love it. As long as you allow the BECKMATES to raft off of your classic Checkmate, I'm cool.

Now bring-on some Blow Boaters so we can do some bashing!

The truth has never hurt me or someones opinion or them telling me what I can do with mine.

Checkmate does have some really cool looking new upgrades but for some reason nobody seems to get to see them because their advertisement sucks.

And come on I like old school and the H2X is no spring Chicken, And you can buy me a beer also but your going to have to catch up with me because I am in a old school Checkmate

It all depends on what the women look like in the Beckmate and how well the owner takes care of it. I cant stand scratched up boats or people that dont use bumpers or people that beach their boat.

That's the truth you speak. The worst boat I tied up to was a cabin cruiser. The dumb as$ decided to run a generator. I did not know it till I loaded my boat but it had black gunk all over the boat. Man it took me 2 washings to get that crap off. I was pissed and did not tie up for a month after that.

" BIG REDS " test review
Some of my findings may not be 100% correct I was forced to drink beer before the test

http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/o...20H2X20002.jpg

Engine ++ 225 slant six I/O
Horse Power ++ it will take a tow-rig with about 700hp to hall it
Comfort ++ Not to good I forgot the optional seat package
Handling ++ like a shrimp boat stuck on a sandbar
Stopping ++ stops like a rock when you let off the throttle
Over all sex appeal ++ Not to good
Cove and tie up review ++ You must remain sober or you will forget which H2X is yours at the tie up.
Resale value ++ Looks good I seen a crap load on boat trader that people are trying to sell. Most of them said make offer
Appearance ++ looks like every other H2 that has been made for the last 15 years
Speed ++ Not bad I was only past by 3 people pulling tubes

Overall review
This is a good boat for the average Joe. The guy that does not like any attention and that wants to blend in with everybody else and not be noticed. I recommended this to the married guy that does not want to be aggravated by hot chicks asking for a ride in his boat. If you have a 35 mph speed limit on your lake this boat will gurantee you no tickets.

And yes I will approve it for the 40- Club

Ummm, dont you want them to read it or something? Maybe I will post your nice little review over there for them to laugh at since you like the copy and paste method.

c_deezy 02-15-2009 11:48 PM

Well its amusing in that I'm taking it as you did it as a joke to poke a little fun. If you are doing it to belittle the new boat, those that built and those who like the new boat, then that's another story. I like it the new boat, I wouldn't be ashamed to be seen in it.

Ironmanwb 02-16-2009 10:28 AM

Why all the negative comments. Can't someone for once see the big picture. A guy bought a company that probably would not have lasted much longer and is trying to keep it on the map. He is keeping people working and trying to move foward and make a product that sells and appeals to more people.

Give them a chance and be happy that Checkmate is still building boats.
