Single Big power 29 Outlaw??
Does any one have one or know of one? What would one run with a 540 blower motor? 700- 800 hp? I've found a couple of LOTO specials with single power and was thinking about it. I love My boat but would like to soften the waves and gain a little room. I just don't want 2 engines. The Nordic gang is wearing me out on getting a 28 heat.
Also, is Jason Smith running 454mags in his Procharger set up? I found one of those also with Imcos cheap. If i'm going to run 2 motors I better be tapping 100 also!! |
I think a few were built but not many, by the time you put a 500 or 600sci in it, it probably cost more than twin 6.2's. Performance in a 29 with single will be slow, and with the HP you are suggesting, you better invest in some spare drives.
I think twins are better than you think,:ernaehrung004: |
There was a guy here in Michigan that had one with a blown 540 and it ran pretty good.I think he was running mid 70's with it. .

Best I have seen is 81.6mph on GPS but with labbed prop, one guy in the boat and light load of fuel JO@Pantera said she will run 85-86...and still crush waves. :ernaehrung004: Pantera would probably be a good choice for you. Not to bash Baja or Nordic just my biased opinion. BTW Dude Sweet has a nice one I think is for sale without power for a great price with an IMCO already on it. That would be a sweet and fast boat if you built a nice 700-800hp motor for it. Cheers. |
There was a single Procharged 29 running around here back in the day that ran 70 ish give or take.
That being said,,,,, I think it would ride better the a twin 29 in rougher water,,,,, that boat is a bit tail heavy with twins IMO |
I made the mistake of thinking that I would
trade some speed for a better ride....that boat only lasted 2 years. It's going to be very hard to get a single 29 to run like the boat you got now. There seems to be plenty of used twin 29's on the market....I saw one w/502's for $42k. The'll run low 80's with 500's, which isn't too hard to make. I'm thinking Jasons we're originally 454 mag mpi's, but he did some enhancements to them. |

I'm not sure why you don't want twins, but as someone else said there are alot of twin 29's out there. I have a friend that has the cleanest 29 with 454's there is, if your interested. You will never regret twins. IMO

I don't know what I was thinking. I spent a ton on mine last year. I've lost $160K and counting in my 401K, I just need to relax and use what I have. I hope to be in the 90's this year. It would be hard to go backwards in speed.
My Son has 3 more years of college. I think I'll wait and reward myself then with a 36 OL !!!!!!!!!! |

Mine will be for sale in 2010. Fresh motors and drives going back in next month. But then again, my stuff is always for sale :)

Once you figure out how to make a drive last for you......it would be a nice package. But you might as well look at a 29 fountain too. Lots out there with 525's that will break 80.

A single big power 29 Outlaw is still a pig. Twins aren't that much more to operate compared to a single.
I change my own oil, plugs, drive lube, ect. The initial investment in the tools (12v oil pump bucket) to do that work is a bit pricey, but once that is over with it is really just the simple stuff that is easy to do. One service at your dealership will pay for the tools to do it yourself. I spend a few hours a month on general maint during the summer. |
