21 Hammer?

Good friend of mine found a 2001 21 Hammer with 197 hours.

He wants to boat in the intracoastal and the Gulf on calm days. Price is $10,500 with trailer.

Pros and cons of this boat?

Mike, if the boat is in decent shape I would have to say thats the best deal on a Hammer Ive heard of. Ive been in smaller boats in the gulf on bad days. Its not a liner boat, Id say go for it.

If he doesn't buy it, I will!

Great price, the asking price up here in Toronto is around 22k canadian...

Great little boat. I had one for about 4 years with a 7.4 and it ran like a top. A worked 25 turned to a 24P was the best prop for me.

Sounds like a deal if the boat is in decent shape and maintained!

That is a steal, buy it.

Mike posted this for me. Actually it is a 1998 not a 2001 with a 7.4 MPI, Bravo 1 with a 23P. It was used mostly for fresh water. It looks like it came out of the factory maybe a year ago it is so clean. I am just not sure on the size boat for the Tampa Bay / Gulf / Intercoastal area. Thoughts?

I think the Hammer has the same bottom as a 212 Islander. My 212 was a lot of fun. Not so good when it got bumpy though. If the bay regularly has wind blow chop I would definitely want to take it for a test ride and see if you are ok with the ride. Flat water it would not be a problem.

Even as a 98 if it is as nice as you say, it is a good deal. I have a 2001 Hammer since new. It will handle pretty big water, but it is not a 25. It is a great inland lake boat, but you may want more length in the ocean.

Thats a fun friendly boat...great lil bar hopper...looks great...and bimbos like the pretty colors....i sold a 93 22 caliber last year for a lil over 13K....I used to run mine offshore in the gulf on mild days....just needed a better ride in the rough so i moved up...great boats for the money

Thanks guys. Bought it yesterday. The thing is like brand new. Took it out on Tarpon Lake here in Tampa to get use to the thing. Everything worked great, and it ran a 65 MPH on the speedo with a newbie that is learning how to set optimal trim. So off to the Clearwater area this weekend. Should be fun. Next is to get the stereo working with the iPod. Already found the info so will be hooking it up before the weekend.

Thanks all....

Well did my first couple of outings in the Gulf. What an awesome boat. Got the iPod working in 10 minutes. Found out that it has a 400W amp from the factory. Looks like 2 subs were removed under the rear seat. But wiring remains so guess I will pick up a couple speakers soon.

Boat comes up on plane easy, handles the 2-3 foot waves very well (when trimmed properly). The biggest issue with the boat is that I have no idea where I am, or where I'm going. There is no compass, and no GPS. I put in up in Hernando and was going to run down to New Port Richey for lunch at Hooters. Made this run numerous times on my jetski. Being out so far with the boat I had no idea where NPR was, much less where to find the channel. So I have a Garmin 440 on order. That with Google Earth and I'll be able to chart my way around. Can't wait till I install it this weekend. Also have a compass on order for backup...
