starter in 25 outlaw

how hard is it to change out a starter? what needs to come off?

It's pretty easy, I just did it last weekend. I have a 502, by the way.

1. Disconnect the ground from the battery to make sure that there is no power to the starter. This can be confirmed by hooking a meter to the large post on the starter to see if there's any voltage.

2. Step into the port side of the engine compartment, since you will be laying on top of the engine. I placed a towel on the floor that I rested the top of my head on while working on the starter.

3. Use zip ties to get the plug wires, any hoses, etc. out of your way...probably want to disconnect the manifold hose also, just to give you a less obstructed path to the starter.

4. Remove the bolt from the large post of the starter where the wires (or cube fuse) are connected. This is a square, white, 90 amp fuse that sometimes is or is not there.

5. Remove the little wire from the side of the starter (should be yellow w. red stripe).

6. There are two bolts on the bottom of the starter, take them out and the starter should drop right into your hands. Reverse the procedure and you're done. No gaskets, sealant, etc. required.

Just so you know, it took me two days to get one of the bolts out...it was just frozen in there. I ended up having to basically drill/dremel the starter apart to get the bolt out but this could just be my rotten luck.

Good luck, hopefully your job will go smoother !
