Picked up some new drives from the classified section. Testing in 1 hour for 3 days including a "fun run" and PIB maybe kelly's :classified:

Looks great!

Fun Run, Put In Bay, and possibly Kelleys? Sounds more like liver testing to me! :drink:

Definately IMCO can't tell from pics if they're -2 shorties or not, but I can verify with 700+ HP a 25OL likes the -2 shorty...

They are Imco -2 shorties and the boat loves them. I ran a set of 28 labbed props I bought off Dock Holiday last year. I had only run them once but I tore them up on a chain from a marker buoy leaving a marina. This morning I hammered them out and took a grinder to them. The boat ran 84.7 with tables down to 4 and drives trimmed about 3/4 of normal speed run height. I had my family with me and did not want to air it out. The control of the boat at speed has improved 2 fold along with the attitude of the boat going through the ruff.

redbud35 06-14-2009 06:48 PM

How much HP are you running? I've been thinking of trying -2 shorties on my 35 with 525's.

Glad to hear everything went well. Next time just tell Scott that you will drive.

I am running custom 670 HP engines. My drives from Baja were set at 7 1/2 below the boat causing a lot of drag and may not help you. Check yours and see if anybody else has tried them on your hull. I think Doc tried them without success on his 36.

Dock Holiday 06-15-2009 07:24 AM

Brian,

Very happy to see you have her finished and she is working well. I did not know you were a prop repair guy!:evilb:

When it comes to shorties it is all about horsepower. With a stock setup you will not be happy. Add a few 100 HP and it is a different ball game.

Doc

Dock Holiday 06-15-2009 07:25 AM

P.S.

Brian the boat looks awesome!

Enjoy

brian41 06-15-2009 09:03 AM

Prop repair... I am sure all you need is a hammer and grinder hang a sign up and your in business. Sinc gauge was dead on all thru the rpm range and no vibration that is much better than the local prop shops do.

Thanks Dock, I have been following your progress with yours and must say I am a bit jealous but for the first time in years I have a smile on my face again as I was the first boat at the first stop. When everybody arrived the looked at me and said "A Baja what the hell you got in thing". At the run I had stock 28's on it and it would only run just over 80 at 4300 rpm. On the start I was in the back and past the field like the were standing still with only the Fountain P-33 coming up on me as we turned into the first stop.

That is exactly what I heard in Jacksonville.

Shorties alone will do nothing but hurt? What if it was in combination with an extension box with stock power?

I can only speak about my experience. When I added the IMCO shortie lowers the boat was a bear to get on plane. It took three times longer and was very hard on the outdrives. You had to give it a lot more throttle.

On plane I could tell the drives were not carrying the bow as before. I actually lost top end speed even trying five blade props.

My 36 is an 02 model and Baja had raised the "X" on the 02's and newer. If I had an older model the 1 inch shorties probably would have been just right to bring the "X" up to the newer models.

It will work just find because with the extension boxes you are dropping the drives / props back down deeper. My guess is with a neutral extension box and a two inch shortie your props are back at the same depth as stock (or real close). You really don't gain much expect leverage and cleaner water for the props.

Not really looking for any speed gains just better handeling in the rough stuff. I have not measured the "X" dim yet but hoping for something in the 6" range or higher but it still is stock.

Wayne I think with the stock power you'll need a box to achieve what your looking to do. Scott's loved the IMCO Extreme Upper with -2 shorty on it, but he's pushing 700+HP

brian41 06-15-2009 05:53 PM

Well I went on the BS site know as TBM today just to take a peak at what kind of crap the site had to offer and sure as zhit it was not hard to find.

Flake telling all his followers what an internet god he is with a worship me thread.

Of coarse a new bash the Ebay guy "whats his name" thread full of stupid misinformation.

Hey Wayne (Baja-man) why dont you tell them about your recent purchase from me ? Hope you got what you order in a fair amount of time and in good condition at a good price.

What really makes me mad is I get calls and messages everyday looking for parts I do not have and send them to TBM for supplier information. I do tell them the owner of the site is an idiot and they do not have to join to get the info but why boost the jerks ego with more people coming to his site so he can show his followers more numbers.

IT I also see that you are going to the poker run next weekend. I will be there and hope to finally meet you as we have had an interesting past couple of years. Please do not take that as any kind of threat. I will be there to make friends not trouble and show some people what an old Baja can do when you screw some HP in them.

If they ask I will. But I wouldn't pay $800 for a 25 OL cover though, but thats just me. There are some good things but some over priced things.

Baja Man

Sorry I just noticed that you run a 25 Outlaw. I have had the opportunity to drive a 25 Outlaw with an extension box and I thought it handled very bad.

Baja had one single extension box left over for some reason and decided to but it on a 25 Outlaw. It was either a 2002 or 2003 model. The boat went to Alton Blakely in Kentucky and a good friend here on Lake Norman bought it.

The extension box slowed the boat down 1 or 2 MPH but it really made the boat loose. The boat was scary to me when you crossed wakes and were in the rough. This is just my opinion and Phil that owned the boat did not agree with me. But compared to the 272 we owned it was a whole different animal and I did not like it. I really don't know exactly how to explain how it felt but to me it was like the tail wagging the head.

What kind of handling issues do you have?

Doc

I sold 7 25 Outlaw covers for $700.00 in the last year and I figure that the last 1 available should go for retail price. I have several people trying to get me to lower the price but it will sell for the $800.00 even though you can buy them a bit cheaper from the manufacture they do not have the Baja and Outlaw logo's.

Unless your referring to a different event I didn't see...I thought the Motor City Poker Run was defunk after Mr.Wonderful jacked so many people?

Your right its the Motor City Fun Run now and yes it appears Mr D's site is about useless now also.

It handles fine now but would like it to be a bit better in 3-4 foot. Was thinking an extension box would help out. I really am not looking for any additional speed just a better ride.

Don't count on it automatically handling better in rough water from a ext box or even going faster. My 272 cavitated terrible between 3000-4000 w/ext box and would plow the bow into the waves instead of carrying the bow and lost a solid 4 mph top end. Everyone told me it was the greatest thing I could do until I i did it then the story changed to " alot of single engine boats just don't like ext boxes" Smitty

Stock drive or shorty???

brian41 06-21-2009 11:52 AM

Had the boat out yesterday and with a constant what felt like a 50 MPH crosswind the boat hit a new top speed of 87.4. I did not make the Motor City Fun Run. When I got up it was raining and the wind was blowing so I decided to pass with the run last week and 2 events in the next 2 weeks.

So far I have fallen short of my goal with a best of 89.1 mph at the LEOPA fall poker run. With the season about over here in Michigan I might try to get there 1 more time when things cool down because the boat always picked up a couple mph in the fall. Over the winter I will change out the 1.35 gears to 1.50 and run the engines on the dyno to look for some more HP... maybe even some new qaud rotor big cube engines.

XT-Innovator 09-26-2009 01:16 PM

Brian, that old boat still looks good! Bring it down and we can do some bottom work on it and get it over 90 mph with those engines. OR, I hear there is a guy in North Carolina that is good with bottoms, and has some free time now???

I'm sorry, that's bad to say because I know how they feel right now.
