29OL vs 302 boss

Looking to upgrade from current boat to possibly 29 ol or 302 boss other than obvious cosmetics differences. Are there
other differences such as hull design, overall weight, speed
differences with comparible motors/hp etc.

Humble,

The 302 is FAR superior to the 29 OL.........oh, did I mention my 2004 302 with HO's is for sale?:drink:

When I was shopping it seemed that the 302s were a little slower and a little heavier. Also seemed like there were a lot more 302s out there for sale with 6.2 Mercs instead of big blocks.

Which style to you like?

Nicer cuddy the 302 wins

Cig offshore look the 29 OL wins

Do you want a windshield?

Can you live with the small molded swim platform of the 302 or do you like the bolted on aluminum platform on the 29 OL?

Both are very close in size but the 29OL is actually a little bigger.

As mentioned above for some reason most of the 302's were built with smaller power than the 29.

I think you would be very happy with both in terms of speed and ride it just comes down to the look you perfer.

Happy shopping

I'll interject seeing I have a 302 Boss with HO's I can run right with a 29OL with equal power. The 302 has a bigger cockpit and cuddy. The 302 at least most with have more ammenities, but most will have a windshield on them. I have a windscreen on mine which gives it that offshore look..The boats to me are very equal as far as size. The obvious is the swim platform.

I have seen TC302 boat personally close up and it is in showroom condition as well as having HO's VERY NICE BOAT

I think the bottoms are the same. Just the cap is different. Could be wrong.
I liked the alum swim platform on the 29 that we had. Cant be beat. And as much as I hate to say it THE 29 has more room in the cuddy than my 38 T/S Cig does, but who the hell goes down there anyway.

Ok,

Since I walked the production line almost daily for 24 years, there were around (3) 29ol's built for every 302. I feel the number one reason was styling, followed by pricing.

Many of the 302's were a little faster than a 29ol with the same power, not always, but more often than not. WHY??? There are only small changes between the running surfaces of each model (they both fit on the same trailer) but we found the the "molded swim platform" on the 302 fills the vacuum created on the back of the hull, and seems to have less wind resistance than a "flat" transom. The molded "hooks" on the hull bottom measure about 1/2" on the 302, and about 3/4" on the 29ol? That could be some of the difference also? Like I always say, every boat runs a little different for many reasons, some good.....and some not as good?

I owned a 29ol for over eight years, and would have never considered a 302, but that's just me....

.

Interesting. Guess that means that when I was shopping the 302 owners were honest about the speed while the 29 owners were exagerating. :lolhit::drink:

Thanks for your replies. Thats the kind of input I was looking for.
It seems that the asking price for the 302 appears to be lower than
the 29 ol. At least the ones I've seen online. And I did not why?
I guess from what you guys say looks like personal preference.
Thanks again
