I am looking to buy a used 2000 25 outlaw, any problems know with these boats? it has a 502 mag 65 supposed hrs. If I was procharge it 5lbs and usual bolt ons what can I expect top speed?

Thanks again
I know stock bravo1 will not take that much HP I was told

eastcoaster 04-06-2002 12:41 AM

werre you not lloking at Pquests a few weeks ago. NOW bAJA'S

Were you not looking at p-quests a few weeks ago. Now Baja...Boats keep getting smaller. whats up bro.
Oh yeah forget the Procharger, not reliable. If you go that route Supercharges will be fine if done/set up correct. Pass on that powerplant. Save the real power for a bigger boat.

I live in Philadelphia,Pa The only place I go with a boat is the river. I don't need a 37 outterlimits! But Yes I want 1 :D I was Looking at powerquests also sonics. Just looking for a nice 70 Mph boat within my budget. Looked at a 29 outlaw but why should i spend the money all I do is tan with the ladies in the sun all day :D

Thanks:cool:

eastcoaster 04-06-2002 07:32 AM

Hey not tryin to ruffle any feathers, you sound thin skinned. In the past the CAP was looking at bigger boats and I was wondering why suddenly the brand/size got much smaller. Just sounded like he never really knew what he wanted and was playin some sellers.
Not sure what the house reference is, never said anyone could afford/not afford something. Hey great ya live in a 300k house on the lake. The Spiders are not choosy. Great ya paid for your boat already, not a great investment but.... what is for that much cash when it a luxo item! Besides 300k on the lake means nothing . There is crap for 300k on some lakes! You could have a sliver of land and a big house, or a huge plot and a modest house. Who cares. I have friends who over extend and never "feel"(have no money) to do anything. Glad the CAP is being smart and not spending more than is necessary to do what he wants.
I was gonna dis Bajs but the 24/25 Outlaws are actually one of my more favorite boats in the smaller size range. Hell, it rides like a much bigger boat when driven properly.
Even considered taking one in on trade when I was selling my last boat. To get that lug over 70 you need more than a 502.

Good luck with the search or will we see ya in another forum soon??? Look around, go sit in all of em, there are many to choose from. Lots to pick from in that size range!

Flyinbrian 04-06-2002 08:34 AM

CAP

I'll set you up with a nice 25 Outlaw.

Take a look at my post "1999 25 Outlaw" in the Baja forum as well as the for sale forum.

The motor in this boat already has the horsepower from the factory. No one has ever turned a wrench on the motor. (At least you know what you're getting into when it has not been modified by the previous owner/s).

Sorry for the shameless plug, guys.......

CAP071 04-06-2002 08:17 PM

Dude alll I have been doing all winter is looking at boats! I 'm looking for a speed boat that I can have fun in. I treated my last boat like an extra large wave runner! I was looking at 29 powerquests and 29 outlaws, but why spend all that money when i will spend most time anchored listened to radio hangin with Bikini's!:D I don't jerk salespeople around I just wasted $600 bucks flying to mississippi to look at a 29 outlaw that was trashed, the saleman said it was new! new my a@@ so who jerks who!

eastcoaster 04-06-2002 11:07 PM

Cap.. sorry Bro, ya just sound like a guy who has gone on Trader/and OSO classifieds and emailed every add with a cool boat for pics, maybe email 50% back after they took time to send ya pics. Hmmmmm, made ya think. No problem, good sellers take the Bad with the Good anyday.

Gotta... right on with the Whipple over the procharger. no debate.
As far as the speed on that 25, remember a 500 efi gets it to what... 73, so that Whippled 454 mag should be a touch higher, but not much. Takies a lot to get it to 80.
About the Lake deal, it kills me how every lake will have so many nice properties mixed in with trailers and Junk!!! Makes sense 'cause thats where people first settled. The Lake communities are always the oldest. Hope your situation works out for ya, just keep your property up, have fun and you can sleep well knowing you did your part!
Cap 70 mph in a smaller boat is tough, but not out of reach. Some west coast Manufacturers give it good efforts.
Some decent reasonably priced used boats could be 27 Fountain(hmmm maybe not, although the smaller beak owners are not as bad as the big beaks), 29, 26 Scarabs, 25, 24 Outlaws, 27 PQ, 26 Sonic, 23 Nova, 25, 27 Advantage, 25, 28 Nordic. Actually the 26 Velocity is fast. 25 Act Thunder Just a few, but all have +/- that every boat will have

Boy this is fun, wish i could shop!!!

CAP071 04-07-2002 08:28 AM

I have e-mail about 5 or 6 people, But about 20 e-mailed me for my boat! I just can't find a boat I really like. I looked at a 26 sonic, 29 scarab, 28 and 29 powerquest,a 29 baja outlaw, and now looking at 25 outlaws. all I am looking for is a sharp looking boat that does 70 mph that appeals to me.but like I said I use my boats like a wave-runner that I tan on!:D

I love my 25 checkmate just too slow 60 mph doesn't cut it my 1 friend has a 32 hustler = 88mph so thats a chaser LOL

JS2 FST 04-08-2002 10:43 PM

I have a friend with a 454 25 ft outlaw with 7lbs boost PRO CHARGED, headers, gears, nose cone he runs low 80's. Pro Charged for 4 years. We have a H2X with a 502 headers nose cone, drive showers, Hydraulic steering, Msd ignition. We picked up over 20mph over stock on GPS with only 4.5lbs of boost stage m3 intercooler and upgraded fuel system. No problems yet upper 80's on GPS. My mechanic does work on PRO CHARGER'S personal boats we were skeptical about supercharging a boat after the problems we ran into in a old car we had. But we know others that have had problems with superchargers just don't cut any corners!

BajaBoss252 04-09-2002 10:52 AM

JST,

Was that a recommendation for ProChargers? If it was, it wasn't very definitive.

GottaHaveIt,

I realize you have a little experience with the Whipple (riding in a Whipple-Charged boat), but what do you have against ProCharger? Have you ever worked with one? Had a bad experience with one? Ever ridden in a ProCharged boat?

All of the people I have talked to that have them, say they have no problems with them, so I am curious why you would recommend a Whipple over a ProCharger. The Whipples make a lot of boost, but they make it right away and this can be a problem for someone with a heavy throttle hand (i.e. Bravo go boom). The ProCharger brings on the power more gradually and therefore less harsh on your drive if you happen to punch it from a dead stop.

Eastcoaster,

What is your PERSONAL experience with the ProCharger that makes you claim them to be unreliable?

MillerLite88 04-09-2002 11:09 AM

This will be my third summer with my Procharged 502 mag attached to a 272 Boss. I have 100 trouble free hours with this set up which is 5 lbs of boost, Stainless Marine exhaust, 30" Bravo 1. I'm not here saying Procharger is better than the Whipple, I'm just saying that I have been happy with my experience.

BajaBoss252 04-09-2002 12:04 PM

MillerLite88,

I'd love to see some pics of that application. I'm considering ProCharging my 252, but it looks like there just isn't enough room in there to get it in, especially since the hatch lift comes off the back of the bench seat. I think at the very least I would have to relocate the hatch lift and maybe even find another storage place for my Bimini top which also rests against the back of the bench seat.

Ted

MillerLite88 04-09-2002 01:28 PM

Ted,
I don't have any pics as of now but I'm going out this weekend and getting a couple of pictures shouldn't be a problem. I moved the hatch lift over to the port side. My intercooler would not mount between the seat and the motor, so I went with a remote mount and put the intercooler on the starboard side. If you did this your Bimini top may not be affected.

-Mark

HiPerf2000 04-09-2002 01:42 PM

Why switch to a new boat???

The Convincor and the Outlaw are similar in size and style. Why not just build your motor??

Unless you are looking for a Baja that may be a year or two older than your check....and you are using the extra $$ to procharge it...then i understand :D.

I may know of a '00 25 Outlaw for sale that's already procharged in our area....I'll find out. Probably doesn't have 5hrs on it since the charger and steering install!!

you should check out the velocity too.

JS2 FST 04-09-2002 11:09 PM

Heck yeah pro charge it!!!!!!!!! Lake of the Ozarks or K.C. area Come by go for a ride!!

BajaBoss252 04-10-2002 09:17 AM

Mark,

That would be great if you could post some pictures next week sometime. Did you have to pay extra for the remote mount for the intercooler? If so, how much more?

Ted

MillerLite88 04-10-2002 10:29 AM

If I recall correctly, the remote mount intercooler was no extra charge. It is the same intercooler, just mounted to the side.

bajaboss 04-13-2002 10:21 AM

hey bajaboss252, I also have a boss252, mine is a 97, do not worry about the clearance with the hatch. I have a 502 with the B&M 250, 1050 dominator, and a 3 in billet breather, top clearance is not a problem. The pain in the ass is in the front. i did not have to cut anything so I doubt you would for the procharger.

BajaBoss252 04-15-2002 09:23 PM

Hey BajaBoss,

I'm not worried about the top clearance, the ProCharger M1SC does not add any height to the 454 or 502. It's the front clearance I was worried about. I have heard of some people having to cut notches in the seat and so forth to get a ProCharger in. I am just curious to see an application similar to mine so I can see what other people have done to make it fit. If you look at the pictures, in my particular application the hatch LIFT is definitely in the way for a ProCharger to mount to the front of the motor...

MillerLite88 04-16-2002 09:15 AM

Ted,
I know I owe you some pictures but we forgot the digital camera this weekend. I will get them to you. By looking at the pictures, it appears you will be fine. I saw you mention M1SC. If you are going with a M1, the intercooler will fit between the back seat and the motor. I put the M3 on and its' intercooler is somewhat larger is the reason it would not fit.

BajaBoss252 04-18-2002 02:17 PM

Mark,

Take your time, I am going on vacation Saturday for a week anyway. I do appreciate the fact that you are willing and able to post pictures of your application though. How much of a performance gain did you see with your boat and what prop did you switch to?

Thanks,

Ted

MillerLite88 04-18-2002 05:33 PM

I went from around 67 mph to 81-82 mph with the Procharger install and ECM recalibration. As far a the prop goes, I went from a 23" Mirage to a 30" Bravo I.

-Mark

BajaBoss252 04-18-2002 09:50 PM

Mark,

One other question, what are you running for exhaust on your boat? My boat has never gone over 60 MPH and it's 2 feet shorter than yours. I have the Q&Q II exhaust but I just pulled the mufflers off and ordered straight through tips with internal flappers. I am hoping this will gain me some HP. Also, when I bought the boat it had a Mirage 21P on it and I bought a used Mirage Plus 23P last year, though it did have some vibration to it. I sent it out last week to Bronson/Hill to be lab finished but I won't know what the boat will do until I get it in the water the week after next. I'll be sure to you let know how it runs with the reworked prop and new exhaust tips...

Ted

MillerLite88 04-19-2002 08:56 AM

As far as exhaust goes, I run Stainless Marine. When I got the boat, it came with a 22" Bravo I and it would only run around 63 mph. I then put on the Stainless Marine exhaust, put on a Land & Sea Stern Jack and switched to the 23" Mirage and the boat came to life = 67 mph. Now, as I look back, that was an expensive 4 mph but hey, you know how it is, whatever it takes to get go a little faster seems to be justified at that time.

JAX25OUTLAW 04-19-2002 09:48 AM

I have a 01 25 Outlaw w/502 and have been toying with putting a supercharger on. What was the final bill for your procharger if you don't mind. Did the install mechanic do the ECM recalculation or did you send it off somewhere. I would love to see 80 out of my boat and if it could be done for around 6-7k I may do it this winter. Thanks for the info!!!!!
Larry

MillerLite88 04-19-2002 10:02 AM

The final bill came in somewhere around 6-7k. I sent my ecm out to Jim at Arizona Speed and Marine fpr the recalibration and was satisfied with it but if I had it to do again I would send it to Mark Boos at Precision Marine in Louisiana.

Johnny Bravo 04-20-2002 08:38 AM

I have a friend who has a 28 elininator with wippled 502. He has had problems with the valve train, the lower end of the 502 has held up. Wipple suggest upgrading the valve train. I have a 2000 25 outlaw with a 502 and I have decided to build the motor then install a whipple charger. does any one have the number for arizona speed?

BajaBoss252 04-30-2002 01:38 AM

I'm Baaack

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to let you all know I back from my vacation to Mexico, I had a blast. The prop came back from Bronson/Hill and it looks great. Got my new exhaust tips while I was away too. Everything is going on tomorrow afternoon and hoping to get her in the water on Wednesday if the weather holds up.

Mark,

Hoping to see those pics of the ProCharger soon...

Ted

BajaBoss252 05-02-2002 08:42 AM

Well, I got the boat out on the water yesterday for the first time this year with the new exhaust tips and the reworked prop. Bronson/Hill did a great job on the prop. No more vibration and picked up about 300 RPM. The boat would only go 59MPH at best last year. Yesterday I hit 63.2 on the GPS, so that's about a 4 MPH increase in top end. Not bad for a $300 investment!!:D The boat sounds awesome with the new tips and they look a lot better than the Corsa Q&Q II mufflers did...

Ted
