baja hammer vs 20 outlaw
looking for pros and cons of the baja hammer and the baja 20' outlaw. it is really on my mind that you can get a 20' outlaw basically new for 20k. is the outlaw really really small??? looking at the newer ones. i loved the 186 sport baja and that is def smaller than a 20 outlaw. my uncle had a hammer very sharp boat and flew good with a 454 magnum. i like the hammer better but somthing about a boat with under 50hrs for 20k(meaning an outlaw) really has me. let me know if im thinking with my head up my
i am thinking of trading in my 226 sport see what theyll give me Chris |
HAMMER
The hammer is a heavier better constructed boat in my opinion. You can add a lot more HP in the Hammer. I know several that have owned 20 Outlaws and they have really enjoyed them but I like the old school stringer construction. Happy Boating |

Def the Hammer. Better ride and much faster. Cool boats
|
My first Baja was a 20 Outlaw and if given the choice again I would go Hammer any day of the week.
As long as you have a survey performed and have the powertrain gone through you should have no issues. In fact, I would venture to say from my experiences that the Hammer will be a much more solid boat with high hours on it then the 20 will with lower hours. |
pics
ill post some pics this weekend need 5k out of it firm on a trailer nice package just looking for somthing newer i have a 1 year old boy and just am looking for somthing almost new Chris

Hammer, Hammer, Hammer
For the price I see on them, they are the better deal. The real icing on the cake would be to find one with EFI power. Once you have EFI, or MPI power, it is hard to go back to a carb. XT |
I would take a carb or naturally aspirated motor any time over the electronics. You will get home every time, and it's easier to upgrade for more horses, it's not hard to get 6-700 Hp out of a carbed motor. JMO

Here is my boat i am selling. I have absolutly no complaints about the boat. It has been great to me. The boat sure turns heads too. No problems at all. The boat starts everytime and runs great. Had it up to 60mph on Lake Cumberland about a month ago. I just bought a Fountain so i need to sell the Outlaw. Let me know if you are interested. Thanks!

I see this is old... so can we bring it back around. Does everyone still feel the same way?
I am comparing a 99 hammer vs a 02 or so 20' outlaw. I just can't seem to find a lot of people comparing the two. |

I'd go Hammer hands down...Here's a pic of one with a 454Mag this boat would hang with 33OL's at LOTO of course I'm positive it was the driver..:evilb: 70mph on GPS all day long |
The hammer i am looking at has the 350 in it and NOT the 454.
You still pick the hammer? Can you compare the ride for me? Someone told me the outlaw would ride better that It was more of the deep V hull type where as the hammer was not. That the hammer would ride more like a 20' ski boat. ?? |

You can HAMMER a Hammer!
I was up in Bucyrus and saw the first 20 Outlaw coming off the production line in May 2002 and I was actually a little disapponted. It looked light duty compared to the Hammer which as mentioned could handle a Big Block. However I gained respect for the 20 OL as many people I knew bought them and really enjoyed them. There is a thread here in this section just from a week ago with a fantastic buy on a 20 OL that looks brand new for $15K. You will love both boats but the Hammer is king. |

P.S.
I gained a whole new respect for the 20OL when one hit the causeway on Lake Norman at I-77 running 55 MPH and flew over the guard rail, flew over South bound traffic before landing upside down in the medium of I-77 just north of exit #30. A good friend of mine with the EMS responded and sent me pictures. That was the talk of the lake for a long time. |

From the blood all around the back side of stereo in fourth pic, it couldn't have ended good for someone.
You have to admit that the boat held up pretty good to hit a ROCK causeway go up at at 60 degree angle, fly over the guard rail, clip one car and land 75 feet away from the water upside down. Yeah the passengers were trashed but the boat held together very well. |

Dang.. I have already got foot itis. I haven't made a decision, but I am looking at a H2X with a 502 mag.
any opinions there? |

Bailey, Was the H2X big enough to do some pokerruns in her? I will be boating on ky lake for the most part, I think i could do it..but was unsure about other runs. Seems like you guys all have much bigger boats.

To be honest, I won't do many runs. I would just like to have that option from time to time. I would love to own a 25 OL, they are just really out of my budget range for a new to me boat. Unless I buy something like a 1997 or 1998 and I don't want to do that. I am surprised at the ride difference with the H2X being about 24' and the 25' outlaw.
|
H2X is a fun boat, but Id take an older 25 Outlaw over a newer H2X any day of the week just for the fact the Outlaw has drop down bolsters.
|
I didn't even realize the h2x didn't have them... dang, i don't like that.
I wonder if i could add them later. hmmmmm I just really wanting to stay below 25K and can't get a good or even simi ok outlaw for that. |
oh no my friend, there are definately some clean ones out there in great shape - we just havent decided if we want to sell them.
PM sent, let me know if you interested in a clean 24OL w/ a stock 502mag for that money, may be time to upgrade soon. |

Even on a regular busy weekend I was glad I had the 25 over the shorter boat. |

If it were me I would look for a 25 Outlaw instead of the H2X if you are looking to get into the poker runs. The difference in ride in the rough is night and day. My 25 was plenty of boat for the runs I did. Bigger is always better but the 25 is a great all around boat.

You guys talked me into it. I am now looking at 25' OL's. Looking for around 2000 and 2001 for 25K. If you know of any, let me know.
I have found a few, but one has 430 hours and one has 560 hours. Might be ok though if the compression checks out. |

There is one on this site in classifieds.. I like it. It's in NY, price seems ok starting point. My problem is its a low hour boat with a brand new engine in it already. Has me wondering what else they have done to the boat if they had to already replace the engine.
Thanks for you help Baja_man. |
