New Logo Idea
 

We have a designer working on a new logo for XT-Innovations, and they did one version using a swoosh much like the older Baja logo. Would that be in bad taste, or is that OK since we are probably the most knowledgeable company out there on the old Baja products? This would not be the final version, but it is a start.

Some thoughts... and these are just my opinions.

I'm not a Baja guy, but the swoosh would likely connect with anyone with knowledge of the brand- not a bad thing.

About the type- Mistral is a bit dated, and although I have always liked the typeface, it literally shouts early 90's to me. I admit that am a bit more opinionated about this than most. For logos, bold and READABLE is the rule of the day, and for type- something not 'off the shelf' makes your mark a bit more unique. My initial suggestion would be to can the lower case 'i' and the duplication of the name, and incorporate the word 'Innovations' into the XT graphic. (see attached-- change colors and add swash to suit your tastes.)

I would stay away from yelo as a primary color. It has very little optical weight and from a distance will completely disappear on a white background (such as a boat). :drink:

Ok, that was probably more than you were asking for. These are just my opinions, and art is a subjective thing.

Something bold and readable like these? The brown logo is our current one, and I don't care for it. Everyone needs to slam away, thats why I posted the thread! You won't hurt any feelings here. My favorite is the third one down on the left page.

The Baja swoosh, to me, is ugly. I don't even like it on Bajas.

I like the bottom right and the second from the bottom on the left. But I do not care for the brown

I like the second one down on the right, not sure if it's what you're going for but I think it looks more aggressive.

Only inexperienced designers get their panties in a knot. This type of thing is part of the design process, and on a forum you are basically throwing it out to a focus group without the ad agency costs. :drink:

The XT combo in the one you like is fine, especially if YOU like it. And the colors are kinda unique. I would get away from the Mistral altogether. Use a bold face (I prefer all caps) so that small versions read easily.

Again, just my opinions that reflect my design style.

One little note: if you are payin a designer for those, he/she needs to learn how to kern. That 'VAT' combo is horrendous in a few of those samples. And don't change colors within the same word- that smacks of 'I couldn't think of anything else to do...' and will create problems for you down the road.

One other note: DO NOT use an outline for part of your primary logo- it will disappear quicker than the yelo.

Don't do the swoosh - that is horrible. Almost as bad as Reggie's chain saw blade.

I agree with jayboat. Stay away from mistral.
I like where your designer is going with the XT but it's not quite there yet.
Right top is getting there but X is leaning left/t is leaning right.
Right bottom is cool, but I think I like the X and T on the same baseline.
If I get a chance later I'll try to illustrate what I'm thinking.

My "XT" may be less compressed, but probably helps with readability.
Also, easy to read, modern, clean font for "innovations"

Wow, not only do I have a free focus group, but not I have you helping me with the design. Will I have to pay overtime for you to stay up working on this, and was Dock helping any?

haha, no problem. I liked the XT that your designer did, was just trying to tweak a bit.
