Outlaw vs Bullet
Hey guys, A good buddy of mine has a 2007 30ft Baja Outlaw. I recently purchased my 1992 31 Cigarette Bullet. We are in a performance/handling debate between the two boats. Its all in good fun, but I would like some outside input on the subject, so I figured you guys could help us out. I will be posting this on the Cigarette thread also, just to be fair. Heres some specs....30 Outlaw 375 HP 496's. Boat does 75 MPH..... Bullet has 2 525 Hawks w/ bravo's. Dont know how fast it will be. Need to freshen engines over the winter. Any feedback on how these boats will fair against each other will be appriciated. Thanks for your help.

I have a very good friend with a bullet and they are a rock solid boat.
They are a little dated but not bad and they handle very well. No doubt the bullet will ride better because it also is a true deep vee and it is heavy. The Baja will be very close on both ride and handling which they are known to be good in both areas. The added weight on the Bullet will slow it down with the same power. My buddy tried hard for 90 MPH out of his Bullet and did not get there. He is running some blower motors at around 750 HP each and it tops out about 87 to 88 MPH. Take a Bullet and update the interior, put a sweet paint job on it with strong power and you have a really sweet boat for the size. The Baja 30 OL's have proven to be very fast and I like the styling a lot. The cuddy in the 30 takes a little getting used to and is not my favorite layout but it is nice. As long as the 30 is sound and is not affected by the stress crack / liner issue they are one very nice boat also. With the same power my money is on the Baja for top speed due to a lighter weight hull and the hydro/areo testing on that hull. Happy boating |
I doubt you will get a fair comparison. Everyone will hear Cigarette and Baja in the same sentence, say "Cigarette, hands down" and walk away without making any valid points.
Now start a thread for current Cigarette owners and ask how many started out with a Baja and you might be surprised. |
The Bullet has the "throne", which the Outlaw doesnt offer. :evilb:
I have from what i have researched some non-standard 525 Hawks in my Cafe & i think am running low 70's. Your boat is lighter than mine so you might be close to that 75. But thats just a guess. I dont know how much more hp, if any, my engines are making over a standard 525. Oh... and i started off as a Baja owner. Still wished we owned it. |
A regular 496 30 O/L is going to run low 70's, on
average. After spending some seat time in a friends 38 TS TG last month @ LOTO, a couple of weekends. I can tell you that people do wave at you more than they do if you're in a Baja;) Oh, and the ride is unreal...never been in or driven anything like it:cool-smiley-027: |

I had a Baja before my Cafe, loved that boat but went for a ride in a Bullet and then a Cafe and had to buy one. If I used my boat in water that was not so choppy I might not have made the switch. To me there is no better feeling then flying through3-4 footers knowing others are struggling to maintain there speed. Baja is a great fast boat and would buy another one before a Fountain or Formula

Faria speedo..... yes:rolleyes: |
My 92 Bullet with 550's ran about 78 with regular bravo's. The Bullet is a very heavy boat for her size and has a great rough water ride. Need a bigger truck top pull her!

Are you saying that 75 MPH is not a GPS reading, but a regular speedo reading?:party-smiley-004:
I'm saying that my 29 O/L w twin 7.4's that would only really do low 60's would read 72 on the faria speedo.;) Even the Gaffrig liquid filled speedo in my other 29 would read about 2mph happy at top end, compared to actual ( gps) I'll stay with my first guess...low 70's w/496's |

ran my baja hard and beat a few cigs here on the cape back in the 90s and early 2000s, I use to love beating then in the calm bay and they would point to open water I would run just fast enough to stay75ft in front of them. we had a wise guy who was around one summer everyone wanted us to run but never did he would wait for me to leave the harbor it would of been close he had 650hp 38tg non step92, I had 650hp. after 20yrs I have moved up to a saber 28 thats getting big power:coolcowboy:. I would of loved to try for 110 in my baja this spring but new boat is here. art

Like every other boater we talk about our fastest speed. 73-74 is correct any day with 75 in right conditions. Seeing it is my boat we're speaking about :drink::drink:
