36 OL with 600's?
A while back....maybe I should say way back when Baja came out with the 36 OutLaw they made one for Poker Runs that had staggered HP600SC's in it. Anyone know what became of the boat? Was my favorite back then.

It was on Harrison marines repo list
about a year ago. Bottom was f'ed up, and the rest of it wasn't in the best condition. |
At one point about 2000 that boat waas on Lake Cumberland for one summer and was owned by a guy that went by "Red Dog". He stayed in the Grider Hill Marina area. At that point the boat had been repowered with 502 MPI's. He was concerned about the longevity of the origional 600's.
I do not know what happened to it from that point. Mark |

YES, The new owner brought this boat to Checkmate Marine for XT-Innovations to qoute a new interior, and for Kevin Brown of Lakway Boat Repair to do some glass repairs. I know he was happy with the qoute we gave him for a new cockpit interior, but I think he was going to do some of the other fiberglass work himself, before doing anything else? The boat has some BIG custom built Dart blocks in her now!

Did it still have the big dent in the swim platform ?
Got to witness that happening:eek: |

this was the 36 with the custom paint and #6's? It was for sale a few years back. Sweet boat!
Never mind....I see you're talking about this boat. I think I was thinking of the 36 they raced with the 420 stepped pace boat back in the day. |

Hey, Boatfreak.
Think I will put any dock work off until next spring. A bit to cool out right now. Am staying real busy with other things however. We are doing fine and really looking forward to getting back to the dock in the spring. See you then. Hope all is well. Happy Holidays! Mark |
The picture is correct. I bought it for the machinery in it to assemble a cat. After we cleaned it up I developed a genuine affecction for it. The way I figure it that boat should get me from my home (Cedar Point) to the Rattlesnake Island Club in about 14 minutes flat. It's in a highly reputable glass shop right now getting the bottom straightened out. I still have the Iowa decals/registration. My wife loves the boat but won't let me sell the cruiser. Hey.........life's good.

Ed,
Good to see that you are going to make the boat right again. You got my number when you are ready for the interior, or if you need help locating any Baja parts? XT (Dave & Lane) |
I would very much like to find ouy more about the history of the boat. We're repairing the swim platform. Judging by the two big impact points on the swim platform and the damge to the hull it looks like it was molested by a fork lift and/or a flopped rack. It seems like they're taking forever on the glass work, but I did tell them to be thorough. I don't want to go through this again. If anyone can provide any history on it, please advise. Once we got the hull opened it looked like it took a good hit in the past. Apparently if a hull takes a hard shot. a shock-wave goes through the glass and can cause damage in remote areas of the hull. Whatever; life is good.My people tell me that every year or two you should sound out or tap out the hull and relaminate or inject any voids accordingly.

04'-08', they bought it from Hawkeye Boat Sales. One of the dents in the swim platform came from it hitting a dock at Saylorville Lake Marina when they were backing into a slip back in 08' It didn't really seem to hit it that hard, but it did a number on it. I never got the real story on the bottom damage, just rumors. |
We are at the point in the project where we are replacing the screen behind the air intake panels on the side of the boat. I definitely need to put the screen back in or the boat will be "harvesting" mayflies everytime I open up the throttles. It's 1/8th inch stainless steal product. The only place that I can find it wants a minimum of 300 yards per purchase. Yes that would be excessive. Anybody know a source?

my screen from these guys. http://www.mcmaster.com/#wire-cloth/=5w2c1s I used the hexagonal shaped stuff, it has an 80% open area. It's not stainless though, its aluminum. |
Is this the one that fell off the forklift? Or was it a different BAJA with 6's?
The pics don't look like the one that fell. |
I have never been able to confirm one way or the other as to how the bottom got damaged. I do know that it took lots of bucks and a good bit of time to straighten it out. It looks great now and "sounds out" very well now. If you know what happened and/or how it happened please share it with me. Thanks. A misshandled forklift can be a vicious animal.

I took my first ride in the boat tonight. I am fortunate in that some prior owner must have spent 6 fortunes on the engines. We were well through the 50 mph bracket and the tach had not cleared 2900 RPM. WOW ! Sandusky Bay never looked so good as tonight. I am now a big fan of staggered engines. The balance and feel that they add to a light hulled boat is indescribable. Yes: speed changes you ...and it's a :evilb:great escape from the reality of buisness.

Can you post some pics??
