Pre-Season Maintenance
 

Well, I pulled the boat from winter storage this weekend. Wow, that boat looks as good as when we stored it for the winter. I have a couple technical questions. I have a 29' Outlaw with twin 454 Mags. I have not replaced the cap, rotor, or plug wires yet. First of all, should I replace those items including the spark plugs? Secondly, how difficult a job is this? Those damn spark plugs look like they could be a problem to get to. Thanks for the feedback.

Replacing the parts you listed would depend on how many hours you've got on them. I'd say 100-150 hrs or every other season should be sufficient in a fresh water boat.

Hey Advantage!!! If your engine was fogged for winter storage, and when you fire up in the spring, all that oil usually fouls out your plugs. I also dont what year boat or engine you are working with, to be of any help for the items. And after your first tank of fuel is when you should change your water fuel seperator, so I have been told!!. And as far as changing those little bastards, well lets just say I was sacrificed just last night changing mine!!!!!! (plugs) And with twins --- better you than me!! Well good luck have fun. Thanks for the replies guys. My boat is a 1999. The port engine was new last season with approximately 100 hours. The starboard motor has 375 hours on her. What do you think?

I'd probably change the plugs, caps and rotors. I would agree with running it for a day first to burn out the fogging oil.

Looks like May 1st now for the marina to open? Might be down this weekend to install the new carport over the dock. Who knows....

"Around May 1" according to the letter. BTW I'm going to be on Pier 3, slip 5. Had the Baja out on Sun and none of the marinas are open yet. The Anchor Inn was though.

I'm on pier 3 also. Not sure the slip number. Was out there today, a little cold and wind. Looks like they floated pier 1 out and must be dredging next week?
Decided not to put up the carport today. Maybe next weekend. Just moved back to Omaha this week. Boxes everywhere in the house. Garage is a mess and the wife has a long list.
Oh well, the boat isn't ready yet anyway. I need a good mechanic to do some work on the throttles and steering cable. Any ideas who to contact? Was thinking about R.C. Olsen.
Stopped at MidWest Boats and looked at the 30 foot Eliminator. Nice boat.

I don't really care for RC. I have had Midwest do anything I'm not familiar with or don't have the time to do. Marty, the owner is a decent guy and they are also only about 3 miles away from my house. Usually he's not too backed up and can me in within a few days also.
