horn cover removal...how?
How does the plastic oval shaped horn cover come off? I think they are Attwoods??? Tried prying, but they appear to be attached at the very ends. I want to reseal mine, but don't want to break them in the process.
Thanks |

No screws or adhesive. They are snapped on somehow at the ends. I can pry out on the middle till they are about to break, but still nothing.

Does it look like this? http://images.westmarine.com/full/10706018.jpg
If so, the snaps are on the outer edges. dont pry from teh middle, start on one side first to get it loose. It will come off. If the tabs break, they break. Its teh only way off. If you dont get it off the reseal it, the horn will fill up with water and strop working, and you still have to get it off. Dont be scared. If it breaks, so be it. |
Almost, but the slots go from side to side at an angle. Either way...Got them off tonight.
Had to disassemble 1/2 the interior to get my head up into the side of the hull to get to the back side for a peek. Had to have been installed before the deck was dropped down. The covers have the plastic studs that go thru the the hull with nuts on the back side. Guess it was a good thing I stopped prying. :) Going to put a peice of clear acrylic or so behind the cover and seal it to the hull so it is water tight. Horns weren't load before and never used them, so not going to be concerned about teh lower volume now. As they are now, it's just a hole in the side of the boat with a slotted cover that will not stop water from getting inside the hull. Gotta resin up the cutout to waterproof the glass/coreing.
