Help identify thru hull fitting

Hi I am going threw a 1998 36 outlaw new to me. There is a thru hull fitting shown in pic 1 on each side. I can see it from a small hole near the battery under the rear seat and it has nothing going to it. Just a open hole. Does any one know what they are for?http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...g/DSC04579.jpg

It's a dickfer...

Sorry I had to!

Great joke in spies like us.

PLEASE get you boat off that trailer and on to one that fits your boat! Way to much hanging off the back.

Hey thanks. Just got her home and working on getting a bunk style trailer under it asap. For now I have the back blocked for support.

These holes are getting to me. You would think they are floor drains but they are not. Cant believe they are open just inches above the water line.

Any advice with just blocking them of?

HOSSMAN 03-09-2010 08:00 AM

Do you have any drain tubes coming from your gunwale comptartments????? Never seen them before so they had to be added I think. Maybe the previous owner was collecting water in them and put the drains in. Seems like it's in the same area???

Ebay Ed 03-09-2010 08:05 AM

i think i remember seeing them on Dock Holiday last weekend but i am not sure

firehill19 03-09-2010 08:08 AM

Just throwing this out, cup holder drains or popup cleat drains?
Do you have ac in it?

HOSSMAN 03-09-2010 08:21 AM

I just did a quick search on traderonline.com for 36 OL's...seems like all the ones I saw "pre" 2000-01 have the fitting...those after don't... so they had to have changed something...

Good trivia question...

Irishtornado 03-09-2010 08:21 AM

Floor drains????

Hook'em 03-09-2010 09:25 AM

And the winner is Dave!!!

Yes, they are/were for cockpit floor drains until someone on the Baja production line failed to hook them up on a production boat, then it rained filling the motor compartment until the water level reached the open thru hulls.....The customers boat went down pretty quick after that! Guess what, no more cockpit drains on 36's after that.

Do I win the boobie award?

alexgr8 03-09-2010 03:39 PM

There is 1 on each side in the same place. I see nothing left over from ac no holes for t-stat etc. there are also no holes or open areas that would have came from the bilge area. Boat seems original with no holes from old mounting hardware. I know I can just cap them but I would like to make shore there is nothing important that should have bin connected. They are in a very hard place to see. Small round plate about 8inches under the back seat. Funny thing is both have nothing to them. They are close to the floor drains but there is no connection at the floor.

XT-Innovator 03-09-2010 04:22 PM

If I remember correctly Baja used 3/4" or 1" bilge hose to connect them, but I would use a good reinforced rubber hose that would seal to the fittings better than bilge hose, if it was me? OR...you can just cap them and forget them?

Hey thanks for the help guys. I pulled the side vents and fund a round panel. Removed and it looks like they are for the floor drains just simply not hooked up and no trace of old hose. Just glad I caught it before there was a big problem. I am replacing the fittings with stainless and will cap them and fill them with 5200 to be safe.

I will put up a before and after post in about a month or so. I bought this boat of eBay for crack money with stock 502s. So far the drives and motors are tip top. Hull is super clean including the rub rails. I cleaned up the old green gauges and painted them blue with silver carbon fiber dash panels. The boat is getting a full rap and carbon vinyl, silver, blue, and orange. Just got my snap in carpet from Corinthian marine.

Btw- she ran 67gps with 200gallons fuel and 5 people last week. Not bad for a stock heavy big.

I have a 98 I think its the floor drain too.
Look in front of back seat on the floor and you will see drain on each side, squirt water in it and look it run s out of those holes.

bajarick 03-09-2010 09:03 PM

XT Dave , the side compartments didnt have drain holes
in them , do you suggest drilling one in each back
corner to let the water drain out.

bajarick 03-09-2010 09:09 PM

I have 500 hp in mine and it runs 76 on gps
with 4 blade 26 prop. Its a little faster with
the 3 blade 25 but you dont have the hole
shot to mid range power.

Rick,

I guess that's up to you? Just make sure you seal the hole if you drill through balsa, or wood.

Somehow I can't imagine your boat ever sitting in the rain, without the cockpit cover in place???

bajarick 03-11-2010 04:33 PM

Dave I didnt think any wood would be around it, its the
well where you put the speakers .I keep the ropes on one
side and the anchor on the other. When you wash the inside
it holds water. My 33 has one drain hole on each side of the
back end.
