Anyone running a 26 OL with a shorty?

I am making some upgrades to my 2008 and plan to buy an IMCO SC. I have read many times that Baja's have a low X dimension. Mine measures right around 7". Just curious if anyone tried a -2 and what the results were. Thanks

I have one. I had some issues with the guardian system as the water pressure was a bit lower. Had to open up the holes a bit more. In my case, I didn't see a big change in speed, but I get the same speed with less trim. I would have preferred a noticeable increase, but am happy not beating my drive to death with the high angles I needed to trim to before. Doing an extension box AND 2" shorty should make a noticeable difference.

Have not seen one on a 26, but I know of 2 25OL's that liked it alot. Both boats have extension boxes. Baja put they're X conservative.

In fo rthe updates....

btw, what kind of parts and costs are needed to do the extesion box? I assume the shorty lower is just that, a new lower unit..

Thank you for the replies. Not sure I would want to spend the money on a box. I see many running their X at around 5" so I am thinking it should work on the 26 OL.

In this case I am buying a complete lower unit with a -2 lower, but I believe you can also use one with your existing upper.

My 25 Outlaw was 71/4" deep(prop shaft). I installed a 2" shorty and still have no problems getting up on plane and definitely run less trim.......:drink: A worthwhile investment on my project and just added a neutral Imco extension box which I hope didn't drive it any deeper.........;)

I am in the process of adding both an ext box and 2" shorty......I wish I had some after numbers to give you but I am still about a month away from thst yet.

Awesome that makes me feel better about it. I should be right at 5". Be sure and post your results. I really like to read about Baja upgrades. :) I should have some results to post in a couple of weeks. I’m starting with the heads and exhaust first...then the IMCO SC shorty.

Just one other question. I notice many going with a box. What are the pros and cons? Not really sure what the box does other than move the OD out from the transom.
