Hammer Trim Tab Pump

My trim tab pump has worked itself loose, it was screwed into the transom slightly to the right behind the engine, and I can't find the screws that were holding it in. How deep of a screw would be appropriate to hold it in, I'd hate to drive one straight through the fiberglass!

Basically how deep of a screw can I put into the transom?

Also, should I be worried if this was a case of rot around the old screw holes?

transom should be close to 2" so I think you'll be safe at 1.5"

As mentioned, transoms are 2" or thicker, but you might have 1/2" of putty/filler and a couple layers of glass behind the gel. Don't want to have a screw pushing on those materials if you can avoid it. You have the Insta Trim/Boat Leveler tabs? Shouldn't take much to hold that pump on. I'd certainly think 1" of thread would be more than enough. May have to move the pump over to get a clean hole if the old ones are stripped out.

If your handy you may want to add a strap, or block support under the pump? The plastic mounting tabs on the Boat Leveler pumps have been know to break off....

All good info thanks, I don't know what brand the tabs are, the pump is a "boat leveler" if I recall correctly...it's red, about 12 inches tall, 6 wide, and 4 deep...roughly

I figured I'd do something of the sort, maybe some battery straps or something

Is it possible to add a position indicator to existing tab setup? Or would I have to purchase new tabs and indicators as a set?

Anyone??

Yep, just get on ebay and buy the complete kit. It's a bolt on option, either when new or later on. I just bought one to replace my defective one. I think it was right at $230 for the kit.

I found one for $260, I'm sure it's the same kit, but that sounds pretty pricey for a single gauge...Does the kit have more to it than I think it does? A gauge with a wire to the pump I assume?

I mean, Great Lakes Skipper has a Livorsi gauge with some sort of 10 pin connector on it for $89, I imagine you just have to plug the Insta-Trim kit into the pump, seems to me it would be a matter of finding the right pins in the right place on the pump to make the Livorsi gauge work?

No, the indicator kit has nothing to do with the pump.
It's a 100% stand alone accessory. http://insta-trim.com/tloc.html
The kit comes complete. The dash gauge, wiring, the parts tht clamp onto the outside of 2 of the actuators, and the disc that go inside the actuator.

I bought mine from HarLeeRod @$225 to my door.

Geez, that's a lot more complicated then I thought, but a relatively simple install and a lot more accurate than I would have expected. $225 doesn't seem like a bad deal at all for that!
