As Ed said, don't waste your time at TBM.

About the only technical advise you'll get there is
how to change a sea pump impeller.[/QUOTE]

That is funny because that is the exact way I described it to anybody that brought up TBM back when I was a member.

But I think your in the proper range for your engine. 4600 rpms is a little low Max RPM's is 5000 on a 454Mag (385 hp). Pretty sure Merc Manuel has Max RPM range on a 454mag 4600-5000. But you are already running a 23pitch prop so not sure you would want to change that. Again, someone will chime in.

I'm sure you know, but were you trimmed up properly. A lot of times you can get to your proper RPM's by simply trimming correctly if your setup is right.

Good luck! and Congrats!

Another site to check out is Teambajamarine.com There is a lot of Drama between OSO and TeamBaja, but I find them both good sites for finding/giving info on our beloved money pits....

Taz, there is a lot more experience over here when it comes to boats and Baja. Ohhh if you want to see just how big of D!ck Blake is just go to TBM and refer someone to Offshoreonly.com and watch just how fast you thread gets DELETED.

I had a 2000' with a 385. I ran a 23 mirage plus that was labbed by the old Houston Prop. On a good day, with light fuel, 67 was doable. Most of the time it ran 64-66. Trimmed up to the sweet spot it would turn 5,100 RPM.

CDiPrecision 05-28-2010 01:31 PM

Man Im way off from that, lol. Ill have to take it out on a calm day alone with no fuel in it and screw around with it.

The prop does show some wear,(you know the leading edge wear that leaves a small hard to see point on the lobe).

jeffswav 05-29-2010 01:14 PM

Like Jason said trim it up till you loose speed then trim back down in very small steps. Be sure to use a GPS and you can find your sweet spot. I would think you should see about 61 MPH.
