Motor hatch hinge help....

So I have a 88 240 sport, and when I bought it, it didnt have the motor/sunpad attached, it was just sitting in there on 2X4s that are screwed into the fiberglass that support it from falling into the motor compartment. So I bought some eddie marine hinges, and after we cut the holes and mounted them and screwed them to the sunpad, the hatch will not open cause its binding up on the material. I want the pad to sit flush with the fiberglass on the top cap. Its almost like I need set up hinges that hing out first the up second. Any thoughts.??

Try a large piano hinge...

In order for the actuator to lift a sun pad, those hinges need to be placed in the right position and at the right mounting angle. Meaning they need to be able to lift freely without much effort - other than lift - from the actuator. Had the same problem and it took a lot of trial and error to get those hinges just right. Material should not bind the operation...if it does, then your placement of the pad is off. If you're trying to lift it manually and still running into binding, then it's the placement of the hinges that is off causing the pad to be skewed.

no no, the factory had a 4 hinge set up which sucked I went with a hinge that seats on top of both just like the factory. if you use a pad I think its higher than the sides I made a custom hatch that had a scoop no vinly and it was flush. but if you have the pad the hinge needs to be recessed if I remember my hinge has a pin going through the middle so if I need to remove it I can pull a pin out push through the big pin off comes the hatch hope I didn't mess you up art
