Radio issue...

Ok so I installed a new sony head unit and polk audio speakers last night. The issue I am having is that when the radio is turned up it cuts out. I wired up a dedicated ground and power wire and still the same thing. Mind you I ran all new quality speaker wires to the speakers. I have never had this is issue in any of my other boats and I have installed quite a few systems in my vehicles without issue.

i had a speaker that was shorting out when played hard. the speaker sounded fine, and worked but when played hard it would trip the amp and make it flicker into protection mode, replaced speakers and it fixed that problem. Now i can crank it up!

Bypass the on/off switch on your helm and run a ground wire directly to your battery. After you have done that try it. I had the same problem and this fixed it.

Thats normally a ground issue. What size wire did you use. Go right to engine block not battery. I attached mine the grounding post wher all the others are. That distance to block i would use at least 10 guage. Im sure there is someone who knows the formula or a link.

I ran 12 gauge power and ground. It runs fine until you turn up the volume. Gonna hook the amp up and see what happens.

12 Gauge is a bit light for that run, I'd use at least 10 gauge. It really does make a difference.

Are you running those speakers off of the head unit?

If so that is your problem, no way no how, I don't care how many watts that radio says it has, all it puts out is 14 watts. Those speakers need more than that radio can supply, the power supply is pukin that is why it shuts down.
