Need help finding a replacement engine hatch/sunpad frame.
Unfortunately the right rear corner of my engine hatch/sun pad fiberglass frame gave out by the hinge yesterday afternoon while boarding it from the dock. I'm 230lbs and when it stepped down quickly from the dock (about 2 foot higher than the boat) the fiberglass gave in. I am looking into getting it repaired but would like to see what it costs to just replace it. I'm looking for one that will fit a 1995 272. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty sure it can be repaired. In fact I have a local guy who can repair it but I am trying to compare replacement cost vs repair.

I'm sure your right but I was hoping against hope that somewhere a shop might have one lying around. lol... I'm taking it to a guy who was the head fiberglass/gelcoat repair for Prince William Marina. He opened his own shop and that should hopefully help me keep the cost down. Boat = Break Out Another Thousand!!!

Your energy would be better directed in get a good repair job done. Call us if you need a new vinyl skin made, or advice putting it together? XT |
XT - getting it repaired but upon taking it off I noticed it is missing some hardware. I bought the boat off the original owner and didn't the couple bolts missing when we looked over the boat. These are the bolts that go from the middle of the fiberglass frame up into the pad. I think there are 6-8 of them maybe. Not the ones in the hinges. Do you have a diagram of the pad by chance?

XT thanks for the pics but the bolts I'm talking about are in the center/middle of the fiberglass frame.

Nope not those... There are hole with what look to be screws in them in between the ridges of the fiberglass frame. I should've taken a pic of them when I dropped it off at the repair guys shop this morning.

Naw, there must be something mounted on top of the lid but under the foam. I know the ones he's talking about. I also wondered WTF those are for. They are spread out around the middle of the lid. Look like lag bolt heads with washers under them.
Dave, I should have taken my bench off Sunday and sent it your way, now I need to wait until 8/2 or 3 to get it in transit. Thanks for your patients. Sorry for the hijack. |

On my Fountain, the top pad is bolted to the hatch itself from underneath in several places. There are plugs that cover the screws that snap over the screw access holes. Kinda like the white vented caps in teh above picture. |
Hookem, you are right on the money. My fiberglass guy hadn't taken the pad apart as of yesterday but he's on it today. He believes that they are there to hold onto whatever the padding is attached to.

OK, you mean the half moon arc shape that holds a strip of wood, or prolite. That is there to staple too, for the strechers that create the headrest look.
Pic's compliments of Ebay Ed's 272 Boss! XT:drink: |
That's what I was talking about. Thanks XT for the pics.
