Tach problem....?
Hello everyone I'm new to the forum but have been glued to it since I've joined.
I have an issue with one of my tachs on my 02 Outlaw 29' that I just purchased last month. It has two 496's and as of last week one of my tachs is acting up. When I was cruising around on the lake this last weekend the alarm went off and I looked at the gauges to see one of my tachs had stopped responding. I backed off the throttles only to have the tach start reading again.... I then leaned back into the throttles and it was responsive for a second then went inop again. I pulled the gauge panel loose and checked the connections and they were all tight. What else can I trouble shoot? Also what motor oil and other fluids should I be running in this sucker being I'm still green. Thanks |

Sounds like a wire is loose on motor for tach.

tech
It ties into the ECU not the coil pack.

Where does the tach tie into, one of the coil packs?

It could be in the main harness plug. All the wiring for the gauges (engine related) passes through that plug. I'd start there checking for bent pins and/or loose wires.
