Interior is going to XT, need some ideas fast..

Well my 272 interior is going to be heading out to XT early next week, still am undecided on colors. I am going to be painting the boat, just have no idea for colors.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Also, can anyone tell me who owns this boat, or where I could see some interior pictures of it.

Can you post some pics of your boat?

Do you have anything in mind at all for the design yet or are the doors wide open?

Well the interior is going Monday, I am sure I have a little bit of time before the new vinyl goes on, but I want to have a decent idea when I get there.

The doors are wide open as of right now.

I am going to do a decent paint job, not just some stock update. I have been looking through thousands of pictures, and just cant find anything I like.

So if you have some ideas, lay them out, obviously its my boat, and I get final choice, but its a tough call, and anyones input would be great.

I am thinking I want some Orange and Blue in the boat, but not necessarily. I am so undecided...

Thanks!

OH yeah, I saw the boat... they did a nice job, I really liked it. I have no doubt in their quality or ability. Just need to figure out some colors...

Is that a 30 OL?

No outlaw there, has integrated platform and a windshield. Plus it has the half moon cabin hatches just like a 272. And it has a stainless bowrail.

I am not sure exactly what model that is, but I am thinking either 272/5/8.

Ebay Ed 10-14-2010 02:37 PM

that boat could be a 232 to a 278 as they all look pretty much the same

It looks very similar to a paint job of a boat I know thats a 30 OL. But the windshield obviously doesnt belong.

Irishtornado 10-14-2010 03:11 PM

I'd do very basic paint scheme unless you want to be married to the boat. I'd keep it simple on colors as well...Blues, reds, black, silver or grey. The rest disappear just like the colors of the 90's

Why do you think a paint job will not be sellable? I am not going to do anything extreme like the scheme boats, or a crazy poker run boat.

I think eye catching will help add to the value because it is not the "norm" that everyone else has next to you.

It's a 275 that I have never seen before. Deck hatch, and rear vents give it away.

While I agree the mid 90s Baja schemes are looking dated.....If I'm a buyer, my first question is why did it need paint and vinyl? I would think it has been neglected and you put lipstick on a pig to resell.

I wouldn't look at it as adding value because you're probably not. Look at it as something you're doing for yourself to enjoy your boat more.

If there's a chance at adding value it would be going with a newer factory scheme since the hulls have changed very little like Irish said. Just my .02.

haulinvols 10-14-2010 08:14 PM

Scott, I am a big fan of the carbon fiber looking vinyl. Even with a simple color scheme it really looks sharp and sets a boat off. It will probably be a year until I can send the Sunny off for some updates to the interior (motor comes first) but that will be what I go with.

One of the things that attracted me to my Sunny was the paint, it was not crazy or wild but fit the lines of the boat well and will age well. I think a tasteful interior and paint will add value to the boat in the future but obviously when you update or customize something....you will never really see your money out of it. Gotta do what you want and what you will be happy with.

Irishtornado 10-14-2010 08:17 PM

Would be like painting mine green....Just cause I like it doesn't mean anyone else will...I agree update it don't personalize it. Flashy narrows your sellable market.

SmurfOnABoat 10-14-2010 08:19 PM

I understand where your coming from... I guess it comes down to someone actually looking that the boat, and the care that has been taken for it.

In my case, it was the previous owner that has not taken care of it, there for the vinyl is started to separate at the seams and starting to crack/tear. Well I could redo the stock colors, and leave the gelcoat alone, but why? Like you said the early 90's scheme is aging fast, I would like to update it a little bit, and give some new color to the interior, so I say I should probably make the exterior match... Just my thoughts. I am going to be painting the boat myself, so I will have no cost other than supplies.

If the paint doesnt ad value, hopefully the interior will. At any measure I dont think it will hurt the value of the boat considering its current condition.

But I exactly understand your point.

Thanks for the input!

I am thinking of doing a later generation Outlaw pattern, or just some mild striping, with baja logo and a 272 badging... Not some exotic one off paintjob or anything, 3-4 colors and quick and easy!

Matt, I was thinking about that too... maybe some platinum CF look or actual carbon look... Depends on what I go with, but thinking possibly Gray seating with Orange/Black trim, or White seating with Blue/Green or Blue Orange trim...

Gets my vote. Take lots of before and after pics to document and show potential buyers boat was not trashed to start with. Good luck! Look forward to the after pics!!!!

Oh of course, I take too many pictures sometimes I think... I see a shutterfly album coming in the spring!

That 275 looks like the Outlaw that goes to the Ohio river and Cumberland. I think the owners name is JC or something to that effect. Let Dave make some suggestions on what would look best. He is the man on that stuff.

Matt,

Yea, Baby....Carbon Fiber Orange!

I started using the carbon fiber in the Baja models in 06' but it has gained popularity with many builders. I don't think it will die for some time now since new boats are so rare. I still like to see the base color in a flat texture though, and the accents in carbon fiber.

Remember after you lie on the motorlid for some time, that pattern will be a tattoo on your back!

Scott,

Figure you might get about 10% back on the paint job when selling it. That being said it may vault your boat to the front of someones list. When buying my boat sure it looked good but I went into it looking for the power and the ride and the quality of the rest of the boat. The paint finalized it but to me it wasnt worth alot. Had I found the same boat with the same power for Less money I would have been in a different boat. I think most folks buying a boat these days would probably feel the same way. Curb appeal draws the buyers but doesnt add to the bottom line all the time.

I agree with the above statement 100%

The updating should be done for your satisfaction. We all know that spending any money on a boat is not going to increase the value much if at all. It just keeps it in line with the newer models.

Yep, whats in the NADA book, is whats in the book. You have to figure that money spent is not going to change the figure, just like engine upgrades. BUT....if you want to feel like your standing in the middle of a brand new $90,000 boat, it might be worth the cost. Nothing beats the dockside comment "Is that a NEW boat" while you are wearing that big smile!

I always liked the 35th Anniversary Outlaw flame motorlids. That with a one piece headrest design like the 272/275. We did this design for Baja....we can do it for anyone!

That is what I am going to go with when I redo the interior of the Sunsation next year. Figure white with purple and yellow carbon fiber vinyl. I definitely want to update my sun pad since the boat does not have anything on it that matches the pad.

Thats a nice looking group of Baja's with that Sunny
