Default 2005 Outlaw SST, 500 EFI. Speed, prop questions.

Well I'm the new owner of the 05 Outlaw with the 500EFI and the monster stereo. This boat is bad-ass let me tell you. Big thanks to Rafe for making the sale as easy as possible.

Took it out Saturday and Sunday. Boat is running good. But I'm a little disappointed in the top speed. Best I could do was 69.3 gps. This is at sea level, flat water, freshwater. I know with a little chop there's a couple more mph to be had, but I was still expecting a little more.

Prop is a box stock 24p Bravo 1

Max RPM was 5000, maybe 5050. While the boat was still in New Orleans I had Mark Boos from Precision Marine flash the ecm. So again I was hoping for some more speed.

Mark told me optimal top speed RPM after the ecm flash is 5400, and thats what I should prop for.

Remember now I'm only getting 5000 rpms. I'm scared if I go with any pitch lower than the 24 my crusing will suffer greatly.

Any ideas guys? Thanks.

First thing you need to do is get a three blade mirage plus. The 25 Outlaws seem to like these props better for top speed. It will be more sluggish coming out of the hole though. My old 25 had a difference of about 4 or 5 mph between a 23 pitch 3 blade vs, a 24 pitch 4 blade, The 3 blade being faster.

Ok, I can try that. How did it affect crusing speed?

My '04 25 OL would spin a 23P M+ to 5050 and about 63 MPH and with a stock B1 24P I would only get 4700 RPM but same speed. I prefered the 24P B1 over the mirage. I later added an extension box and IMCO lower and labbed the 24P B1. I am still in the trial stage....

I would say if you had the B1 labbed you will pick up a few more MPH's.....typically, a 3 blade will be faster top end but suffer on take off. The 4 blade seem to have a better cruise speed. I would contact Bblades and use his loaner prop program to see which one you prefer.

Another 4 blade to try in stock form is a rev 4. They seem to do well on the OL's.

I know of a guy with a 25OL with 496HO spinning a 26p Bravo labbed by Bblades at 5300 doing 74mph on speedo...It's all in the setup...Trust me all that stereo you got in there is what is slowing your boat down...Weight slows the boat down especially when it's upfront...

You need to get #'s and spend money on prop...If it's setup to spin 5400rpm's then you need to prop it at that...Take that 24p and call Bblades and have them give it some tweaking..

Maybe I'm speaking out of turn here but 5300 seems a little high for a 496 HO. Has the motor been warmed over? I thought max for these was 5050 or 5100.

Thats the max on mercury's end, want to keep their motors from problems while under warranty. These motors can easily handle a couple extra spins, just give the computer to the right person, and let them work their magic.

Just to add another cog to the wheel....

What would an Imco shorty do for me? Does the 25 outlaw hull like that? Worth a try?
