Liner boat issue

I have recently sold an 06 25 Outlaw and am in the market for a 29 or 30. I have read that the 30 is one model of the "liner" boats and have been known to develop stress cracks which are unrepairable. Are all years suspect? Is the cause HP/torque? The reason I ask is because the one I will be looking at is an 04 with 6.2"s. Where will these cracks originate and are they easely identified? Any and all information is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Good questions and if in your shoes would be looking at the 30 over the 29, no question, but would run as fast as you can from a 30 with 6.2's. Under powered with no resale value. That's like trying to order a 4 cylinder in a Corvette. Just not smart. The surface level stress cracks people get nervous about are nothing but cosmetic and if fixed WILL reappear. You'll see them up near the windscreen ends or near the cabin door, but again, purely at the surface level as the boat has needed flex built into it. With all this said, I know where you can get a beautiful 2005 30 OL with 496HO's that you would be very happy with. PM me with questions. Good Luck!

Whatever you do make sure you have it surveyed prior to buying. I know of several "liner boats" with hull issues and anything prior to 06 will have zero warranty from anyone.

I wouldn't buy any boat without having a survey done on it. It's money well spent.

Buy a 33. Most of the 30's are so overpriced. The 33 is ALOT more boat too.

You're a wise man Alex:drink:

bsboss 03-08-2011 10:28 PM

What kind of speeds can you expect out on 33 with 496HO's? Versus the 30?

and no sarcasim here. the 33 is my favorite baja and depending on if the engines are built well on this unit this seems like a deal (to me) what a pretty boat! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/33-Ba...rQ5fMotorboats

What are you looking to spend? I'd stay away from 2004 30 Outlaws many that year had problems. This one is pretty well set up: http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o37642-en.html

33 probably will run low to mid 70's

30 will run mid to high 70's

x2

Baja changed the X on the 30's after 2004 and put the drives lower in the water. This 2007 that is listed was built by Baja with the 2004 X. I'm the one that checked the boxes at the dealer meeting. All the smoked hatches, cabin door and raised X were all done at the factory. The 30's with a higer X and 496 HO's run very close to 80 on GPS.

I had a 2002 33 with 496 MAGs best I saw was 69 GPS with labbed Bblade props.

I have a buddy with one. I have raced him a few times, his runs about 71 on the GPS. This is going by me driving along side him, not with the GPS in his boat. Redbud (Alex) is a friend of his, I think the boat may be for sale.

If you are talking about BOB's boat, it really runs nice. I was shocked how quick it was the day I rode on it.

Depends on the setup. I know a 2005 30OL with HO's that would run 83 on GPS.

bsboss 03-09-2011 07:29 PM

I almost pulled the trigger on a 30 OL 2 years ago, but then I started re-searching and read about the liner issues. I still am interested but how does one know if there have been repairs made on used 30OL? I was concerned the values would really drop but I haven't seen much changes in price.

Unless Sea Ray would tell you you'll never know if they've been repaired under warranty or not. Reason you don't see changes in prices is because people bought when it was 154k to buy a nice 30OL and they still owe that much. Or they rolled over the loss on they're trade into it.

I think Bobs 33 runs a solid 74gps. My 35 would run 71-72. He could always get around me with the 33. And that was with stock props on his.
It is for sale too!

Not trying to knock Bobs boat, but I pass him every time. Mine runs a best of 74 (no current), 73 fully loaded even on a hot day. Just using that as a guide, not many boats at the river are passing me now. As long as you keep yours off the river :lolhit: Now if I go to LOTO thats another story, just a average boat there. In boating 1MPH seems huge, 2MPH faster seems like you are flying past them.

Now we hear the reason for the 525 install on the 35! :angry-smiley-038:

Kevins sure does look good.

jeffswav 03-10-2011 11:18 AM

I do like the 33's, there is a lot of room in the cockpit. Cuddy is good size also.
