Baja 405 Performance
I am looking to possibly get an 07 405 performance with twin 496 mag hos, generator and ac... Any opnions or comments on it? top speed? cruising speed? what should i be paying for one with under 100hrs? good boat for the money? Any Help WOuld Help.> Thanks

What are you expecting, because it will not be fast. Good wave crusher at about 60 MPH, that is a heavy boat.
Just thought about that combo a little more, probably more like 55 MPH. Very underpowered for the weight and size. |

I bet if you had to ask a Baja employee which boat caused Baja to be sold off they would pick this one. Lot's of warranty issues.

I briefly thought about a 335 a while ago. They were almost giving the leftovers away. I haven't heard anything good about them. I was worried about parts and support down the road. Just aren't that many out there.

Ive posted this before, but I love this 405 picture. My camera was pretty salty and wet that day.
I dont consider 60-62 mph as underpowered from 496s in a boat you can stand up in to take a shower, and all those other options. |
These boats are slugs, I have one at my marina here in clearwater florida, nice looking boat but basically plows through the water. He told us that he wished he would have purchased the .38 special with 500's. His first choice.

What I think is interesting is comparing a 38 Special to a 405, two completley different boats. Sort of like comparing either one to my Outlaw. All 3 boats have their own reasons why you would want them.
The 405 is a "performance" cruiser.... But it will do 60+mph. Not alot of cruisers can say that. I mean it has a radar bar for christ's sake (sorry eddie!) The 06 and 07 models were aLL recalled at the time they were built to update the adhesives that were used in the cuddies. They were all fixed to my understanding. The drivelines and colors are going to be the only real difference between any of the 405's. After that t is how they were taken care of. If you like the styling, go for it... In most cases it is ALOT of boat for the money! |

How fast is a 38 Fountain Express Cruiser? That seems like a fun party boat. |

They are NOT wave crushers. Neighbor on the dock bought a leftover 08 from Kelly's Port last year. Got the crap beat out of him in rough water. He had 60 hours on it and sold it for $90,000.

Still like the boats. I wasn't being a smartass about apples and oranges. Just meant they are totally different boats.

Agree, for such a large and heavy boat they just don't handle the ocean well when it gets rough out.

Choice between a 405 and a 400ss No comparison, more like comparing apples to peanuts. The 400ss is an awesome boat, got the best of everything and moves, should get 50+ with 496 HO's alot of boat, much bigger than the 405. What kind of boating are you going to do. I'm sure the 400ss is 50k more.

I didn't find it in any other thread, but what exactly cracked on the 405s that was repaired under warranty at Baja? I remember adding ribs in the hull??
Does this boat have the symptoms of the failures? Or is the damage from something else? http://www.boattrader.com/listing/2007-baja-405-performance-103082702/ |
