Quick question on behalf of new Baja owner
A buddy just got his first boat.
Brand new 30 Baja....496s ...what props would all of you use?. Has 32 X 15 on it when delivered. Would everyone here just leave that alone ? Can someone give an estimate of speed ?? Its below freezing here so I'm not taking his calls to go to the ramp.:lolhit: Thanks |
So lets get this straight, the boat isn't even been ran yet, you know nothing of the RPM's, drive height, labbed prop etc, and you want all of us to take out our magic wand and figure it out?
With all your years of vast boating knowledge that you are so readily wanting to inform everyone of, You MUST have the ratios canned in somewhere? Drop it in the water, run it and let us know from there, we can help much better then. BTW I am guessing right at 80 Now who is stirring the pot? |

Its Easter, I'll put your tone down as not finding any eggs. |
no actually it was pure sarcasm... Might as well say it like it is. Just thought you may enjoy a little reverse banter.
On a side note, are you the previous owner of Catastrophe, that was sold through the dealer in Canada? |

Lot of covering of the butt there??? Why so much "little" information? Know something about the motor swap? Just askin? not implying anything. Just thought some background may be helpfull for the current owner?

Dont get the butt covering comment . Do you want to go back and forth all day or would you like to phuck off now ?? |
Are they 496 Mags or 496HOs? I have a couple friends that have 30 Outlaws with Mags. I can find out what they came with.
|
Unless they put 1:65 drives on it ( which fountain has been
known to do) they're too big. HO's should run at or around 80 |

Buddy's boat with 496 Mags came with 26P B1 four blades. No complaints. His was a Baja built boat.

My friend is not a top speed type of guy, more a cruiser who will have more than 2-3 people in the boat most times. It was odd to me to see a 32 pitch prop come stock on the boat but as I said I have zero knowledge of the model of boat. If it wasnt the ugliest weather I've seen in years at this date we would go out and give it a whirl. Solid wind and rain and ugly cold. Most years the marina is full with boat enthusiasts getting out for first time of the year on this long weekend. |

That boat will never swing a 30 let alone a 32. |
On the Baja Built models. If it had 496 Mags 26p was the standard. You could lab a set of 28 and spin those. With the 496 HO's 28 was stock and could spin a labbed 30. I think I read somwhere that Fountain went with a different drive ratio. Baja used 1.50 on the 30 from what I remember. Hope this helps some. Have a good easter...:drink:

Based on that fact what prop pitch suggestions? Let me explain whyI'm asking. This is an 09 boat.....never sold till now. I dont know if it was sitting in the corner and someone threw some props on it on the way out the door 4 days ago without paying attention. |

This is pretty much spot on with a 1.5 ratio. If it has a 1.65 which you mention in previous post I would think 28 or 30's....and 30's might be a stretch if not labbed. It has got to be be working the engines with 32's. Why would Fountain change the ratios to 1.65?
I found it odd when he first started talking to them a couple months ago that an 09 boat (never used) would exist. Will report back about prop performance when it gets in the water. Thank you all for your input. |

Back a few posts it was mentioned that Fountain built Bajas had that change. Who knows why ?

efficient sizes of bravo propellers. And at that power level it's not going to destroy the drive. Plus, with the larger engine boats, the'll run the same size prop with a 1.5 ratio, so you dont need to stock smaller props. |

I run 28's on my 30 and I have the 496HO's w/ 1.50 gear ratio. I run 78-80mph and would think 32's for a 496 mag would be way to big of prop for those engines to push especially if the guy isn't a top end high speed type.

Tell him to try a set of labbed 28's. They should work just fine.
