454 Mag water intake issue................
 

29 outlaw with Twin 454s Mag efis, Before i put it in water i wanted to see if both motors ran good and if cooling was fuctioning properly. Lowered the drives and put them in a tub filled with water which was fed by a garden hose. One motor has great water pickup and it came out of the thru hull exhaust etc, no issues. Second motor is not so good. Drive is not picking up the water at all. Any suggestions??? Sea water pump? impeller? any tips troubleshooting?

Are impellers located inside sea water pumps on these motors?? It is NOT an enclosed cooling system.

yes they are if you have the serp belt set up i have a brand new sea water pump Ed 419-721-1778

Ok, pulled the sea water pump out and pulled the impeller out. Does not look that bad to me but i never pulled one apart before so........ Pics attached. Does the impeller housing look oval shaped? Is it out of rount are they are supposed to look like that?

The impeller housing insert is scored up pretty good, will that cause an issue???

I always replace the entire housing when I change the impellor...and carry a spare.

Could be several things. Most likely an impeller or housing causing the impeller to not seal up correctly. Also, the impeller is designed to run beneath the waterline of the vessel.
I would invest in garden hose attachment for the drive so you can pressure feed the cooling system. This will ensure you are feeding water to the pump. If you still don't see water out the exhaust, you likely have a bad housing and/or a plugged fuel cooler. The fuel cooler is located under the engine on the right-hand side inside a plastic box and will have an electrical connection to it. The fuel pump is housed there as well.
It takes a 1/2 or 9/16 socket to remove the 2 mounting plate nuts on either side of the motor mount post.
Once you have that off you can remove the 1.25" hoses and pick out the impeller pieces or debris that will have collected there.
