Well I used to have a Hammer with the 7.4l 330hp motor. The H2X gives you 2 more feet of length. I would think that the 6.2 is a small motor for those boats but that is just me. With the 7.4 I used to get about 66-68 out of the Hammer. If it were me and I had a choice between the two I would get the H2X. The speed of both boats will be very close with the same motor but the H2X will do better with the extra 2 feet. Resale will be better as well. They are both great boats and alot of fun so you really can't go wrong with either. For the same money you should be able to get into a 25 Outlaw which would be the boat of choice (24 deg deadrise, decent cabin, etc) for me if I were to reccomend anything. Not as fast but it will handle the rough stuff much better and when the water churns up you will go right past and H2X or Hammer due to the handling (they will have a very rough ride-lots of air time).

Well to me the H2x is a very good looking model Baja, and the 2008 Hammer X was fugly!

Bite the bullet and find a Checkmate dealer and purchase a 2011, or 2012 version called the 244 ZT. You will get a transferable warranty from a company that has been in business for 45 years, and now owned by the family that built the Baja legacy. Check out the detail that goes into the gelcoat work alone!

The first gen hammers are a blast in 3 foot lake chop. They launch out of the water very easy. If thats what you want. Guessing the H2X will do the same, I think it has a bit more deadrise than the hammer.

+1

I did design work on both hulls, and you are correct that the Hammer had 20 deg. deadrise, and the H2x had 21 deg.

Imagine the fun if 10 of your closest boating friends had Hammers with the same power or close, and you set-up a small race course....
