Clarion remote on the back of a 272
 

Looking to install a new Clarion CMD6 in my boat, with a wired remote (MW1 with LCD display) on the transom. Some trepidation in cutting a 3" hole in the back somewhere; want to do it somewhere not too structural, but keep it accesible from the water, ladder area.

Anybody else install one of these on the transom area, and where did you put it?

I just did mine. I put it above the rub rail and about a foot in from the end, so I could reach from the water. It was tough for me too, cutting a hole in the boat, almost didnt do it.

Here's where the factory unit is on mine. I know the transom is different.

On my 232 i had the bigger sony unit i put next to grab handle that is for using swim ladder. Only spot i thought was flat enough. definitely nice when swimming from back. easy access to change volumn. Once you do it you'll be glad you have a remote there.

Think I'm gonna go with it like this (scale picture of the remote)... seems to be a flat enough area..... and I like that you could hold onto the handle with one hand if need be.... but yeah, gonna take some balls to cut into the boat! Hope she don't fall apart..... lol

I thought of doing it to the left of the handle, but the mold is a bit curvy there.... also, there is access to the interior of the swim step from the engine bay, so it's do-able.

I think it will be worth it though. Getting out of the water, soaking wet, climbing into the boat to lower the volume, etc. is a major pain in the arse....

Ever see a 272 with a factory Bravo 3 before?

I'm pretty sure someone swapped the drive on it. It should've came with a 1.50 Bravo regardless of motor unless it was a blue motor. What year 272 is it?

I havent taken a pic yet, but it was a MW1. My boat is quite a bit different in the back than yours but I put mine closer to the corner. I have a pretty wide platform and wanted to be able to not have to reach for it, and not be able to read it. Plus then I could run the cable straight back under the gunnel with the rest of the control/electric bundle. It works great, Ipod function a little slow but thats to be expected. I spend too much time last year climbing in and out all day plus the mess it causes, gonna be great to have it there. I put one at the helm to so I can control while driving or at the dock without climbing in.

Yep I would agree with the posts and pictures. Right there next the grab handle would be perfect!

1996 Anniversary model. 454 Mag. I've got the original bill of sale. B3 from the factory. It works well, boat does over 60 on GPS.... not sure why anyone would have ordered it with a B3, but it does jump out of the water pretty quick....
