I needed a new horn, too. That's an AWESOME idea! I agree, the factory 'horn' is a joke... Nobody can hear it. What's the point, right?

Dan--did you find the problem with the horns I had installed behind the vents?? If I recall, I grounded them to one of the engines.

I am a fan of the train horns. I have 2 sets on my truck and they operate at 200psi.
If you guys think the people in the videos were scared, you should see them when they are hit with 2 sets of horns @ 200psi.

How good (loud) are the electric air horns? I've seen a few with the two trumpets..... Looking for a replacement for my stock horn, and want some oomph. Love the loud train horns, but not sure I want to go the compressor route, etc.

A couple boats in my marina have those horns.

There was talk about getting spray insulation foam sprayed in them. Haven't heard the horns for a long time.

I have nathan p3's from the Seattle dinner train on my truck, I cannot imagine something like that on a boat!!! 152 db

The horn I put on is crazy loud, 150psi, compressor in the head, horn in the engine compartment facing the vents. works really well.:evilb:

If I had one on my boat I'd puke!! Of course I'm a locomotive engineer and blow for 100-200 crossings @ 4 blows per crossing! You get sick of it:angry-smiley-038: For info; the new engines all have electric horns and they are louder but have a different tone, the older ones with true air are ran at 120-140psi, so I couldn't imagine 200psi!

puzzleboy 09-30-2011 10:54 AM

I wouldn't want to catch anyone doing that to my boat....

Me either! And IF I did, it wouldnt be spray foam that would be getting stuffed in the horns!
