Baja Sst Outlaw 25 Setup ?'s
 

hey guys, i someone from scream and fly . com told me to try here for some answers...

my father in law bought a baja outlaw 25 sst

its a 496 HO
and it has a pro charger...
currently a 32 bravo 4 blade spinning 4400 rpms WOT
we had hale propeller turn it down and it came up to this in rpm but no increase in top speed i think he said hes gps @ 76 but i have to check

we seem to think the prop is a but too big, can anyone give some advice on the setup of this boat?>

it is also a bravo xr drive

what prop should we be running?
what rpm should we be turning ?
any setup secrets for top speed?
i would appreciate any help`

I'm guessing gear ratio of drive is 1.50 and unless some reprogrammed the computer RPM's should be 5100 on rev limiter, so you want to prop it to run 5000.

I'd say you need to be spinning a 28p Bravo to achieve this. I'm guessing it'll handle better as well. Without knowing more info on drive height and handling it's hard to give you tweaks to improve handling.

You could add extension box or a Imco shorty to raise drive up.

Also I'm guessing it has hydraulic steering currently.

Irish has hit it pretty much on the head. But if the drive sits deep, you can also try a M+ 3 blade in 29". 4400 is too low for sure.

+1 on all the above and often times speed issues are related to the guy behind the wheel not knowing how to actually operate the boat and systems correctly.
Drive trim is the most overlooked and over used system on the boat.
Without mastering this concept all the propeller advice in the world will only be minimum help.

he is coming over from freshwater .... we run 260 powered tunnel hulls im sure he knows how to use the trim, im well aware of setup is everything but im just looking for a ball park prop to start setting this thing up since im so far off right know and none of the props for my lakeboat will work i dont have the money to buy a bunch of props for the family boat...

when you guys say 28p bravo do you mean a 3 blade or four?
my idea is to get a prop such as a 28p that i know i could get worked into something that will perform at the right rpms the prop shop just cannot take enough screw out of the 32 to make it right...

the boat has hydraulic steering and handles pretty well, well get it close the way it is for now and then start messing with drive height its a learning curve coming from the outboards, on my hst i simply jack the plate up to raise prop height

The 28" Irish are mentioning is the Bravo1 four blade prop.
The one I mentioned is a 29" Mirage+ that is a three blade. I would say that most good Merc dealers should stock these. You can also give Bblades a shout. He has a prop testing program, and he knows how to work them as well.

Whatever you pick up for a prop start with a bone stock one. Keep in mind when you raise the drive or add a box to set the drive back your entire setup will change.

So with the setup you describe above you are at 15% slip, I think there is room to get this down based on the "4400" RPM's.

As others had mentioned and stock ECU is used with a 5150 rev limiter you should prop in the 5000 RPM range. A 28P Bravo 1 4 Blade would be a good place to start, maybe even a 26P.

IF you can spin a 28P at 5000 RPM's at 12% slip your speed should be ~77 MPH.
