Ran good last night...finally outran someone!!
Good night last night on the Mighty Ohio river. Aside from the fact we pulled the boat at about 1:30 AM (my saying is "Ain't a thing wrong with being the last one off the water on Sunday") I raced a few guys a put on a good show. Hit 72.9 GPS with 3 guys and 1/4 tank, pretty happy about that. Probably would have seen 74 if I was alone, wieght doesn't seem to hurt this motor too much, unlike the old motor....no balls. Raced a new 26 Donzi through a bunch of boat traffic and pretty messy water and ran dead even with him, then earlier I ran down a 25 Outlaw from about 1/4 mile behind him. He might not have been @ full throttle, but he was racing some other dude, so I bet he had it pinned. he was pretty surprised to see me after he blew by me while we were floating about 3 minutes earlier I had 4 guys in the boat for that one and gave the motor a pretty good test, keeping it hammered for a long run.
So, I know I'm only going 72-73 mph, and I know that ain't s*** compared to some guys and there top ends but it sure is nice being able to actually CATCH someone and run even with a bigger Dozi with 2 passengers compared to my 4 passengers, especially considering I built and installed the motor. I couldn't beleive how well the boat handled some pretty heavy boat traffic waters (Ohio river gets alot of 30 ft, 40ft, 50 ft cruisers, not like we were running over pontoon waves, plus it was about 4 o'clock on Sunday afternoon) I think the extra passenger weight helped the handling to be honest. Plus, the samller boat makes 70+ thru rush hour pretty damn exhilerating. Hey Tank, your gonna love your new package. Thought I'd let you all know how I did. Later. |
By the way, that was post # 1000.........only about the 20th in the last 6 months though.

Good for you Allen 4 !!!! Feels great doesnt it !! Be seein you out there !!
|
Awesome Allan!
Must be a good feeling...not being a 'stocker' anymore. Hehe:D Nice to hear the sucess story. Have a great season! |
good going on the motor!
It feels even better since you did the work;)
|
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK MY OUTDRIVE SHOP NEEDS THE BUSINESS:p
|
good work i wish i would have gone to the river to watch all of this sunday:D

Allan, you're killin me!!!!:) I can not wait for my boat to be out of the shop!! Called them just a bit ago, trying to find out if I'm going to be able to take it with me to havasu in 2 weeks.....They're going to call me back when the owner is back, but said everything is in for the motor and they are putting it together. But I still need to drag the boat down to them so they can do the external steering and gill exhaust(which I'm praying will fit!!! They're off of a cig)
So what prop do you think you are going to stay with? And what prop do you think I should be looking at on mine? I currently have a 23P labbed finished three blade, but I know it just wont be enough. A friend of mine with a 38 scarab and BIG power said I may need a 31P!! I just have no clue what I'm going to need to run:confused: So you are running the stock dual ram tabs and it does run better with them down?? I figured it would. Everyone I run with that's seen me run my boat are concerned about it being out of the water more than in...I have tried to explain that I used to run the drive as far out is it would go and no tabs (speed baby, speed!!) You obviously know what I'm talking about. I figure run those tabs down and it will tuck the front down, run it wetter, at least fly level instead of nose up!! Shouldn't need it trimmed out loose with all the new power. I have no clue what speeds I"m going to see with the new motor....people are saying low to mid 80's...but hit the wall at 85:rolleyes: I'm thinking I don't want to go over 85 in that boat anyway!:D ;) Dude, sorry about the long post, but you have me all pumped up about getting my boat back! Thanks man....Keep the info coming. Tank P.S. Merlin540 had me thinking....You are running a stock bravo right? What was the HP on your motor? Did you have it dynoed?? I'm stressin on blowing a drive! I had them go through the whole thing while the boat was apart....Hope it holds!! |
tank dont worry about the drive i can fix it with quick turn around
see ya charlie:D |
quick turn around and a drain of the pocket book!!!:(
Just got off the phone with my mechanic...I need to get a new manifold!! Will be here in 3 days hopefully...Everything else is done...motor is going to be putting out 650HP!:D I'm thinking I should just buy a new drive now!!:( ;) :D Tank |
I heard all you "burned down" was an old refridgerator. hahaha But I hate to spread rumors.:) :) :)

Thanks for the good words boys, it sure is fun not having the frickin' mule of the pack!! I actually get thumbs up now for something other than how the boat looks. Plus, when you fire it up at the ramp or dock, everyone turns to look. It may not be the fastest, loudest, biggest bastard out there, but now I can get a little respect and ain't nothing like hearing the cam lump !!!! AHHHHH, feels very nice boys.
Tank, (this may be long, beware) with 650hp you are going to have your hands full dude. Holy s***, I did not know (or remember) that you wre making that much power. What is the torque number and who dynoed the motor. The answers to those two questions are going to mean alot more than the hp number. That, and what the hp/tq curves look like from the dyno runs. From the way you talked about how the boat used to have to run all trimmed and tabbed out, well, that;s the same with me. Now it's quickest with no tabs and a little less trim than with the old motor, but the key I think is the 4 blade prop and the transom lift. It's a completely different beast. Handles the rough water well and , yes, now it will fly level, if you want it to!! My suggestion to you is go with a 4 blade and BE CAREFUL when you shake this thing down for the first time. With a three blade you are wreckin' that's my thoughts. You'll see what I mean. You have about 125 more hp and probably about 100 more ft/lbs/tq than I do. No more than about 2500 RPM out of the hole to plane and watch re-entry. I can hit plane pretty easily with out breaking 25-2700 RPM. You may as well count on gernading the drive with the air the boat will be getting, especially off shore waters. Mail it to Merlin, he will have it back in short time. I assume I will be doing the same at some point as well, the boat just likes air man, you know how it is. That thing is going to be stupid fun. Glad to hear you are going with external steering, that is my next stop as well. My guess is try to find a 26 or 28 Rev 4 to borrow for starters. Grab a dyno sheet from your motor and work the hp/tq curve. If you make the motor grunt a bigger prop you have a 100x less chance of hurting the motor than if you spin some small wheel at 5800 RPM. Pllus you will save some gas....although it sure sounds freakin' cool when you spin the s*** out of them!! My GUESS is at least 80, more like 82-83 GPS. I get an immediate 100 more RPM by cracking the hatch about 6 inches to let the motor suck some cool air. Give it a try. Air density, etc... make a difference as well. Plus, it may run better with more wieght, you got tons of power for that boat. Wear your toggle cord!!! HAHAHAHAHA Hurry up and get that thing done and fill us in. If you still have my cell number, feel free to call or post here. Have fun and be careful, that thing is going to be wild dude:D Hadley......I NEED STEERING!!!!! Yeah, you'd have been proud of me man, actually out ran someone!! CFD12, Sunday, let's hit the river, same for you Hadley and Merlin. Byron and Tim will be outta town. I am going to the river if it is clean, call me if you are interested. It was fine on last Sunday. just little stuff floating around.....and a school bus and walk in freezer. Sorry about the long post guys, just all pumped up about my creation...........;) LAter A4 |
Allen, you are the man! I'm stoked for you bro. That is cool you are having so much fun with it.
I was thinking I'm going to need to run a 4 blade too. I borrowed one once with my old motor and I like the way it grabbed. Good hole shot and top end. Just a good mix of both. I don't have the dyno sheet yet....I don't know all the technical crap dude!:D I leave that sh*t up to the mechanic;) I'm not putting a scoop on the hatch, so I hope it gets enough air in there....There was suprisingly enough room for the blower and the super chiller w/out a scoop!! I'm thinking about putting some intakes for air on the side, kind've like the new Cigarettes....The ones on the side of the engine compartment. Hope that gets it enough air. I hear you on taking it easy out of the hole and on re-entry...I've always been easy on throttles getting on plane, but I know you know that when I had that 454 in there it was throttle to the fiberglass baby!! Never looked back, never got off the stick coming out of the water...That 454 just didn't make enough hp. But luckily I've had lots of practice while my boats been down with big power on big boats....Hopefully It'll be fine, I think I'll be ok. Keep giving us info man...I want to hear how that thing is coming Tank |
Yo, its fun having fun.......!!
I know what you mean about the 454 dude, I rarely lifted the throttle, pretty embarrassing!! Have fun with the new set up, but ease into it, get the feel and then let 'er rip. I'll keep you all posted on future s***. Seeeeeee Yaaaaaaaaaa A4 |
