Looking for Opinions on New Purchase - Possible 2009 26 Outlaw

Been looking around and have my eyes on a 2009 26 Outlaw by Fountain. I am looking to spend under 60- 70 on the boat and would like some your guys feedback if this a good boat or if I should be looking at any others? What's important to me is good top end speed and a smooth ride on rough waters.

The one I have been eying down has 496 MAG HO and Stringer Construction

Appreciate your input on this one.

Well they are all pretty relative questions. With stock 496 HO the boat will run 65ish.....it will be just fine in 2' chop, can handle more but all depends on your passengers. For that kind of money nicer twins can be had. Have you looked at other brands? Baja is good but is not the most efficient hull.

The 26 is a good boat. In terms of efficiency, it is not the fastest out there, but it's not bad at all. The thing is. In your budget range, there is ALOT of nice boat out there. 29, 32 and 35 Fountains from 2000 to 2005 ect. Also, there are many nice brands too. What you need to do, is to go out and drive as many boats as possible, and find what you like I.E. single's, twin's, size ect. Any particular reason why the 26OL? There are a couple of nice 29 Fountains from '05 and 06' with blue power. The 29 Fountain is about the same size as the 26OL but it's a more efficient hull. The 26OL is nice, but do yourself a favor and look around. It's a buyers market in you price range.

This is what I would look into.

26', 27', 29', 30', 33', 36' Baja's,
29', 32', 35' Fountains

All can be had for what you are willing to pay, and there is so many other nice brands.

I was looking at the OL because It was newer and allot of
time we are on smaller lakes. Does that justify it in your guys opinions? I was also thinking that a newer boat would be best? What do you guys think? Where would you recommend I look at other choices? I am located in Nebraska if that helps. Most of the time it will be 3 passengers but sometimes up to 6 or 7.

Thanks for your feedback.

Thanks for your feedback.

With a newer boat, you will possibly take a harder hit when selling it again. I don't consider a boat from 05 or 06 old at all, so I would not worry about that too much. Also, if you have a boat with a little time on it, possible errors and issues are either fixed or noticable. Shogren has a really nice '05 29 Fever with twin 6,2's, take a look at that one. My personal preference regarding size, is not about where I boat, but how much boat I will haul around. When you are on the water, bigger is better, but on land, well, you get the point. And with twin's you can always get home.

Do you have a link for that fever?

Here ya go, 6.2s are great engines inexpensive to run and the same to fix.

What do you think this Fever would top out at? Think it would be a good ride with 3' or so chop?

Is it going to eat allot more gas then the 26 OL? In your opinion ok to go on smaller lakes?

Looks like a nice boat :)

For that kind of money I would look at one with a warranty, or buy used also. Liberty is building that boat again, or look at companies that survived 08' & 09'.

I had allot to do with the 26ol design at Baja, and it is a very cool, good looking, and handling design. Spent many hours behind the wheel of the very first prototype hull, and that boat has NO issues with rough water.

Were there ever any issues with smaller Fountains, or why they quit building them? Not trying to restart the Baja/Fountain war again, just asking.
