Speedo no worky
Worked fine last year. Blew out the line with compressed air, and you can hear it hissing back at the pitot hole in the outdrive. Pitot hole in the outdrive looks nice and clean. I blew compressed air into the back of the speedo, and the needle spins around.
Thoughts?? Also, does the speedo work by air pressure, or water pressure? Thanks! |
Water pushing on the hole in the outdrive increases air pressure in hose attached to the speedo. Take a small drill bit and twist by hand into the opening of the outdrive. I got about an inch of WOOD out of a speedo hole before.

Why not just go GPS and get a proper and usefull reading?
Just sayin'. |

Just sayin'. At least with the GPS it is only about every other year you have to deal with fixing it instead of every other time out... (Depending on where you run) |
Pitot hole was clean, but I'll check it again.
I have thought about a new speedo (if that's the issue), but Gaffrig no longer makes the exact size, so it might look a bit odd. Plus, I use my Iphone with Navionics when I boat, so I've already got the GPS speed info, just wanted to see if I could get the speedo working. Regarding the GPS antennae.... why the hell wouldn't they have 12v wired units instead of batteries? Seems crazy... |
