little bubbles/ blister on hull

What causes little blister or bubbles on the hull?

Is it a real bad thing?

Can they be easily fixed?

How do you fix them?

They are about the size of the end of of pencil eraser.

beginning of Osmosis. From boat sitting in the water. Water penetrates the Gelcoat then swells with the fiberglass and can't get back out of the gelcoat. Proper way to get rid of it is to have whole bottem of boat sanblasted in the fall and leave it open for the winter and in the spring, have it sealed and re-sprayed. Or blast and bottem paint(will hurt resale)

My old 272 got them where it sits on the trailer carpet.

The only way I knew was I jacked it up to wax under the bunks.

I bought it new and it was covered under warranty,,,,,but what a project it was to fix.

P.S. it was a 97 as well

Mine was a 97 Hammer. Water line down had them. I went through the whole process above, but I bought the boat knowing this needed to be done and discounted the price to have it repaired. To be quite honest, if you trailer the boat all the time and plan on keeping for a long time then I would bother fixing, but if you plan to re-sell the boat in the next year or 2 then it will need to be done.

remove gelcoat, let it dry out, re-gelcoat.......yes it's kind of a big job. It hurts performance and kills re-sale.

Mid 90's Bajas had problems with blistering. If left unchecked, it'll only get worse.
