Redundant snaps in canvas
I have a convertible top I bought used for my boat, and 4 or 5 snaps don't line up with the ones in the boat.
I'd like to just install new snaps in the canvas at the correct location, rather than move the snaps on the hull. But what can be done with the now-redundant 4 or 5 snaps in the canvas? If I remove them, there will be a small hole in the canvas. Or is there a plug type deal which can be snapped in so at least the redundant snaps won't be rubbing on the hull? ' XT Dave maybe? :) Thanks! |
I did the same thing with a cockpit cover XT made me. I started installiing the snaps in the wrong location. I thought about cutting short nylon pieces and putting extra snaps on them to: 1-protect the hull and 2-know not to use them.

I'd drill the unused canvas snaps out. The holes left will be very small. You could always put a few stitches over the holes if you wish. If you leave them in, you risk scratching the gel.

I bought a used but like new cover for my boat. About 10 of the snaps did not line up,just put new ones in and cut the old ones out. If you put a pair of cutting pliers on the inside of the snap flat against the cover they split and you can pull the other side out. Very small hole just left it you can not see it.

My advice is no different than anyone else here. Side cuts, and live with the small holes.
Not sure what color your sunbrella is, but you could try mixing a little gelcoat, or paint with white sylicone, and put that in a small squeeze bottle to seal each hole. XT |
