New Baja 26 Outlaw Owner
 

Hi All,

I have been fortunate enough to pick up a used 2009 26 Baja by Fountain Outlaw with low hours. This has been a very long winter to say the least. Looking forward to the summer to take it out on Lake Michigan.

I read a few posts that indicate some minor bugs are noticeable in the first year of operation. My boat has less than 20 hours and i was thinking there could be some things that might not have been addressed. What are the things I should be looking for and are they usually pretty noticeable?

Welcome!!! If I'm not mistaken the 2009 models where built with stringers the issues where in the ones that where built with liners. You shouldn't have any issues other than the normal stress cracks in gel that is in every boat somewhere. Maybe we'll see you out on the lakes although I do most of my boating in the east side of Michigan. Again welcome.

Congrats on your new ride! I'm not aware of any Faja issues either. Of course there aren't that many out there.

Congratulations on the new boat, you have to post some pictures.

One thing I would check is your alignment. My was off from the factory and the mounts do not have (at least on ours) any left right adjustment slots. After trying to have three shops figure out the alignment it was determined there needed to be a left/right and not just an up/down adjustment.

Also with the 496HO you cannot drain the oil through the transom with the hose. The stringer is in the way of the plug to get the hose out of the bilge.

Believe it of not it is possible to get the oil drain hose out through the drain plug hole. You need somone with really small hands and skinny arms and someone fishing a bent coat hanger through the drain plug hole to grab it. Was able to get it on my 09 247. I bought the drainplug that connects to the oil drain hose and now it works just like the older baja's. Oh and plenty of patience while getting it past the stringer. I put 23 hours on mine last year after I bought it new in June and have had no problems with it. It runs great and actually is quieter over the waves than my old liner baja.

uptick, the 247 and 26OL are different boats; there is no way what so ever our boat's hose can come out the drain plug. It is the two 90º bends and couple inch brass end and fitting on the 496 hose that is the limiting factor. We cannot get the brass end to bend around the two 90º in our boat. They are very small openings, maybe Baja Blast can get his out but I'd be very surprised.

The best solution is to install an additional drain plug on the upside of the starboard stringer for the oil drain if you want to keep using it. I am going with the 12VDC pump, it is done in a minute or two.

They did not want to cover our adjustments either! We submitted our claim with in a week or two of them filing for bankruptcy. :poopoo:

Ya maybe the stringer design on the 26 outlaw is different than my 247 islander. I also have the 496ho and was able to fish the oil drain hose between the stringer and the bottom of the engine to get it out the drain. It was not easy.

I have an09 26 Outlaw and the only issues I have had are the two spots on the back of the transom where they lift the hull from the mold shrinking back. They must have used some sort of filler, holes are about 1" in diameter. Otherwise boat has been great.
