29 outlaw prop question
I posted this in the props forum, but if anyone has anything to add let me know! Thanks for any advice...

Having had a 302 and 29 OL with 7.4 MPIs and trying several combos of 3 and 4 blades I can tell you it won't change the listing or porpoising. 22" 4 B1 will give you a better hole shot and lower RPM cruise. 23" 3 blades will give you a better top end. I could bump the rev limiters with the 4 blades, but not the 3. I don't agree that stock 29OLs necessarily run better with 4 blade props. Especially the vintage of what mine was and what yours is. It was later on when Baja raised the X and they benifited from 4 blades.
For me it came down to a boat full of people and coolers and I would throw the four blades on. A light load I would use the 3. Honestly though.....I know it's winter and you're bored....there really wasn't that much of a difference and I thought the time and money put into buying and trying them all was kind of a waste for this application. For minor listing I always trim the drives seperately. Listing a little to port? Trim the stb drive up a little or tuck the port. For porpoising I found the boat preferred a little higher cruise RPM. (3700-3800) or of course you can drag some tab. |
