trim tabs
I have 1997 24ft baja outlaw sst with 502 mag procharged. What size trim tabs do i need? Right now i have i think regular size tabs with w/dual hydraulic arms. Do I need k plans or what size tirm tabs do i need? The boat came with a set, not sure if they are the right size. The top speed of boat is 80mph.
please help |
I would want them over the aluminum Benett style you probably have. As far as "needing" them, I don't think you need them, but you should want them. You "need" hydraulic steering if you don't have it already.

Ideally you can run the boat at WOT without using any tab. If you have chine walk or any other ill handling, I would look at the steering or prop. Using the tabs will slow you down.

In good water conditions my 25 ol runs the fastest with the tabs neutral. I am going to add 280 k-plans this summer.

ok i put 28in on mine they drag i cut them down to 18in your boat will be out of the water the tap are in the air.if you are tracking level. now if you got a prop that give you a lot of bow lift your tabs will be draging. so if you put long taps make them sit high. i only use them when i have a lot of fat guys with me::daz:

I never owned bennet style tabs but wonder if they really have that much of an impact. I had 280's on my 24 Superboat and it was like putting the brakes on. Even at neutral they scrubbed some speed. I used them to keep the nose down in the rough but didn't need them when flat.

Wasn't someone making duplicates of the 280's to bolt up to the dual ram? If anyone knows where to get them or someone has some that they want to sell, please pm info. Thanks

The Bennets work pretty good. You have to drop them lower to have the same effect.
