A few weeks ago I was comparing our 26 Outlaw to a 277 Islander. Just eyeballing it, looked like they were the same below the rub rail (delta pad, number/placement/size of strakes, etc.) .

Thanks XT! The brochures are great. It's cool to see the color schemes of the boats back then. My '93 is toned down a bit from some of those. For a 20 year old boat I still get a lot of compliments. The huge cockpit and the easy engine access are the best features and why I just can't seem to part with it.

Great thread. Brings back a lot of memories. I was a kid during the late 80's, early 90's but was obsessed with boats. Spent hours staring at brochures and boat mags. My parents had friends with a 280ES and another had the '91 320 brochure boat. In '93 my dad bought a '91 model 270 that was originally sold at the Miami boat show. Over the next couple of years several 240's, 24 Outlaws, and a 272's, and one 290 showed up in our area. Even as a kid I schooled many people on the difference between the models. I was the only one that could remember all the differences in deadrise, beam, whether the length included the swim platform. Keep the history lessons coming XT.

Here's a question. How many of the "bigger" boats, say 24' and up, were built with Yamaha power? I remember tagging along on a test drive in a 24 Outlaw with a Yamaha 454 in Ft Walton, probably in '91.

Then that brings up this question; both boats have the same 425hp engine, drive and even prop. The Outlaw is about 2mph faster.

Is that a weight/balance issue (Islander possibly heavier in the bow), an aerodynamic issue.....or both?

Those pictures are from this summer boating season. It me and my girl on those pics.
I bought the boat in missourie last year. Redone the Stripping, inspire from 2007 model. The back gray flag are original and paint in the gellcoat. The idea was to match it with the new stripping to have a 'original' look... I'm happy with the result. The Vynil of the copit has been redone also.
Notice how the back stand high compare to a twin. This is one fast way to difference single and twin. I know 2 guys with 29ol twin. Evidently they are faster, one by not that much,, the other with 502's is a other story.. but I'm finaly the one going faster on the water,, my fuel comsumption is easy to deal with... .. But we realize we'll lke to have more space for extend week-end etc,, so I plan to move up with size in a near futur, maybe a 38 fountain or a Velocity 390 will be our next boat.
I'm bringing the Baja 29 to Florida this winter... I can't wait to navigate in the clear turquoise water!! And going to the Copa cabana club in Fort Lauderdale eating shrimps..!! Alway beem there by car so far, should be a great experience... If any of you are in the area this winter and recognise my boat feel free to come talk to us!!

I have seen this issue on many Baja closed bow/open bow models that were the same hull, power, x-dim, and so on. I remember seeing almost 4 mph one year between a 212 Islander and a Hammer! It IS a combination of the added weight forward, a full glass windshield, the wind drag on the bow and even the wind through the walkway hitting the rear bench. Sometimes you can put the bow cover on and pick up a little speed.
