full imco hydraulic steering

i just put full hydraulic steering. I have a question, Is full hyfraulic steering alot different then a steering cable in performance. I mean manuverability. When I had it out and trying to dock it, It felt like i was wrestling a cow and the steering would let loose alittle and jerk. What is normal to expect from full imco hydralic steering.? is it smooth at all speeds or jerky at parking and docking speeds?
what should i expect from this type of steering?

Only jerky when turning rapidly back & forth.

I have Imco on mine, smooth as can be. Maybe there is still air in the system, just a guess.

im guessing air as well,,,,,,,go lock to lock several times to bleed system and see if it improves.

make sure resevoir is full first obviously

JasonSmith 07-17-2012 08:29 AM

There is air in the system. It should be smooth, smooth, smooth.

I am having the other mechanic at the marina look at it. He is familiar with putting them in. And I told him to work the quirks out.

That is what I thought. The other mechanic said he would put fresh fluid in it and make sure it is corrected. For $3700 it better be smooth. I would turn when docking and it would get stuck and then and then i would force it alittle and it would let loose alittle, I would try cranking it all the way in one direction and that is what would happen. I hope it is the air in the line.

Don't worry, once it is working correctly you'll never want anything other than hydraulic steering on your boats.

Have the Imco set up on my 24 and love it

i just put full imco on and love it. i have to wonder if you could be having a pump issue, maybe not supplying enough pressure? i only spent about 10 minutes getting the air out of mine and its been good since.

i hope so, i have had bad luck from the begining off the season.
been on the water this summer a total of 3 hours and got toed in.

the one mechanic was doing wok on the side and it took him for ever to get me the boat back and then steering issues and then blown head gasket, what next the boat sinking to the bottom of the lake

i definitly don't like the steering, it sucks the way it is

do you have a supercharger on the boat? , and if you do, how is the motor holding up with it

the at imco mentioned the pump too, he said the pump may not be strong enough or that the hose to the resevoir is not big enough and the opening has to be mad bigger to supply more fulid to the lines, this other mechanic has put them on before and , seems to know his stuff

what type of speed are you getting from your set up?

do you tube and wake board off your boat?

baditude 07-20-2012 09:59 AM

88.7 is the fastest ive seen on gps with a 5 blade may have gone a tick faster but anytime above 80 I concentrate more on keeping a hold of it than looking at the speedo. I cant find anyone that wants to tube behind it  That and it doesnt have a swim platform .

Hopfully w/ the trim tabs all the way down and drive all the way down. I will beable too. I hope my son will beable to tube on it next year whn he is bigger. It has a swim plateform on it too
