I know this has been posted a few times in other threads and I have asked a few people but quick question. One of my motors occasionally won't crank unless I wiggle the shifter. Last time out (over a month ago) it almost didn't start. I thought I had read or heard that there were contacts you could clean to fix that in the shifters....then I also saw where there is a switch you replace. I have never pulled the throttles out before but is this something that can be cleaned (contacts) or do I need to replace the switch(es)?

I had to replace mine about a year or 2 ago. I have heard that you can clean the contacts or re adjust them. I just replaced so I knew they would work again.

Thanks Tim... I think I read where they were only about $30 bucks or so...probably just replace them I guess. Anybody got a part number?

mine would act flaky also sometimes so i ended up just putting a zip tie around mine so the switch is activated all the time.

that being said, you may have a starter solenoid starting to go bad on that motor rather than a shifter switch issue. on mine theres the one down on the starter and a slave up on top of the motor. if it was me i would zip tie the shifter switch ( 2 minute job, remove a few screws lift up shifter, wrap ziptie around it) and then run it like that for a few weeks. and see what happens if it still has starter issues sometime that would point to the solenoids having an issues instead of your shifter switch. this way your not replacing parts that might not be faulty

Thanks for the reply gsxr... I will do the shifters when I go up to the lake Sunday. I have a 99% hunch it's the shifters because I can wiggle the shifter and it will start just fine. But if not I know where else to look now. Thanks!

Be sure to do the same for the overboard lanyard. Really any safety device should be defeated. They just get in the way.

I have the occasional electrical issue also, and it's either the key switch, NSS, OL, or slave solenoid. Jumping the terminals on the slave gets her to crank.

I wouldn't defeat the safety devices though. There is some danger there, and if you ever do have an incident, say bye bye to an isurance settlement or manufacturer liability. Just my .02.
