Not sure your budget bro but the one at the Dallas dealer w 150hrs and sterlings is from Grand and Never abused. He moved up to a 700 boat.

n20michael 08-28-2012 05:15 PM

What are you looking at getting? You should have no problem selling your boat, it's killer!

They never really had any issues w drives. It has the ITS boxes and I have Stellings-- I have about deceided that they are my main problem.
But price is alittle high as to what has been selling UNfortunatly for SOME of us.

Not sure you can find a cleaner one and NON merc chit

No problems with Bravos? I give me a day on it & I'll have one in need of a $5k fix.

Wasnt mine, it was Bill's TS....r/h drive stuck in fwd.

Had to limp it down to the 31mm, throw it on a lift,
and take my truck over to his place and grab his spare
and swap it out.

I tore it down last night.....nothing that $ 3k wont take
care of......at least for a little while:rolleyes:

My junk survived the weekend.

Quinlan 08-30-2012 05:38 AM

It's XR's...and this isnt anything new, lots of people have the
same issues with them, just do a search.

There's a 50-50 chance that you get a good set of upper gears

It seems like Merc changed something around 05'...thats
when quality took a dump.

The'll pit out, chunk out, crack, or even break off a tooth
and junk the whole upper out.

I have all the tools and know how to set them up but that
doesnt matter when you're dealing with marginal material.

I was asking since my buddys seem to hold up, he averages 102 mph any day with a 353 Formula, best of 107

He had IMCO when he got the boat, blew them up and since went all XR parts, maybe since he has extension boxes it helps? He has had no failures so far for 4 seasons, he looks at them to check every fall, had a helmet break last fall that took out u-joint but no actual drive fail..

I guess it's just a luck game!!

then my other buddy smokes a big azz TRS last weekend with 525HP go figure....

Have him take Q, JS, BA and myself for a ride.

There's so much negative drive karma there that he'll
need oars or seatow to get back to the dock;)

LOL

Yea... the first 2 seasons he was smoking engines while getting everything dialed in... I would rather hurt drives lol

JasonSmith 08-30-2012 06:33 PM

Full Force, IMCO uses XR internal parts. Gear sets, shafts, bearings.....
Stuff breaks. I set up my drives, my motorman sets up my drives, my boatman sets up my drives. We all have equal success in making them live.

I dont think the earlier ones had all XR parts, if nothing else the upper to lower shaft was a torsion shaft smaller then the XR but maybe the other stuff was still XR, I am not a drive gu ru, he knows that stuff a ton more then me, I was just curious thats all..

Full Force 08-30-2012 07:24 PM

What you looking at for next ride??

39 is staggered, the 38 is side by side. I think those are the only significant differences, in my book anyway.

Thats the only difference, the 39 is longer because of stagger

WILDwhenWET 09-01-2012 12:01 PM

Same beam then?
