335 Baja Cruiser
Is there anyone in the Baja crowd that has any experience with the 335? I have been a 100 mph boat owner too long. At 64 years old with 4 grandkids I need to slow down and get a small cruiser. This looks like it might fit my needs. Any help will be appreciated. Best regards, Quent

Anyone?

Never owned one - but was there when the 335 started production. Others should really chime in, but I liked the boat a lot.
Really depends what you are looking for in a 'cruiser' and how much you want to 'slow down' |
Jet, thanks for the reply. I want to do at least 60 but 70+ would be better. I need Captain's Call for my wife. I will probably never stay overnight on the boat but need a small head and the kitchen stuff is ok. We want a place to sit where most of the wind can be knocked down and have room for about 8 total riders. It hurts to consider this but its time. Best regards, Quent

I have a friend that has one. Nice boat, rides well and is nice compromise. The boat has quite a bit of cockpit space and sounds like it would fit well for what your looking for. His is equipped with 496 HO's. A formula SS might be another boat that would be a fit for you too.

Don't know if you are in the new market, but I think this boat is amazing! Don't let the bow rider fool you, it is full cabin under it!
http://www.chaparralboats.com/2013/c...d=66&page=home Another great best of both worlds boat, amazing quality http://www.powerboatlistings.com/view/17712 The powerquest SC320 is something else you may want to consider, I think they only come with small blocks, but will run 60 mph |
I have a Baja 405, the 335 is its little brother. It really is a good fit for me. Reasonably fast, and a lot of comfort I am 6'5" and the Cabin is more than usable. Me, wife, 2 year old son and dog weekend with out issue.

I have heard several good and bad reviews on the 335/405 hulls. Not very many were made so quality reviews are hard to come by. It is nice hearing bmtbandits review because I have been considered purchasing a 405 over the past few months. After completing a lot of research, I think the Fountain 38 Express Cruiser is a great fit for anyone looking to get into a "hybrid" that offers the luxury of a cruiser and still has a respectable top end. I've heard owners tell me they are seeing low to mid 60's with HO's and low to mid 70's with 525's. I know you were looking for more info on the 335 so i apologize if this is not a helpful post.

With a clean bottom I can get 61/62 in almost any conditions. I have once gotten 65. These are GPS numbers with 496 HOs. I would assume the 335 would do better with the same power.

Bandit,
Do you have HO's? What do you think a 405 would run with 525'? Do you think it's practical or too much money for little gains? Sorry, I don't mean to highjack the thread. |
