Looking at 2000 29' Outlaw

I am looking at a 2000 29' Outlaw with SINGLE 454 mag. Great condition, and was used on fresh water only. I will be using it in S. Florida. Any opinions? This is my first performance boat. Any help is appreciated.

29 OUTLAW 07-14-2002 12:00 PM

Is this the boat you're talking about?

http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/0/6/27305106.htm

The guy must be smoking crack to say this boat will go 74mph. A 25 Outlaw with a single 454mag will only go about 64. Go for a ride and let us all know what it does. The price is pretty good though.

OUTLAW Drew 07-14-2002 12:10 PM

That's the boat. I found it at a dealership though. Called Baja and they said speed in the high 50's. Does the 454 mag mpi have 419 horsepower? I thought it was only 385. The boat does look brand new. Anything I should take a very close look at? I will hopefully be sea testing it on Saturday.

OutlawBayB 07-14-2002 12:36 PM

I paid about the same for my 2000, 29 Outlaw with twins. In my opinion I think that is quite a bit for a single engine 29. I just think the boat is just a little too big for a single 454. I would keep looking.

OUTLAW Drew 07-14-2002 12:55 PM

You only paid 59k for your 2000 29' with twins? I haven't seen anything any where near that inexpensive. This one's going for 52k. That's at the bottom of the NADA value. The best I've seen for twins is low 70's. 20k more for one more motor? A bit steep. I will keep looking though.....Thanks.

29 OUTLAW 07-14-2002 12:56 PM

You are correct about the 385 H.P. I don't know where they got that 419 from. Baja is right on the money in terms of speed with one engine. I just think 50's would be too slow. You would get beat up by everything out there including jet skis. If you want a larger single engine maybe look for a 29 Scarab. They will run well into the 60's with one engine.

It was not easy, we were in a hurry to buy also, but we held out and waited for the best possible deal. The boat only had about 50 hours, the person had bought the mid year 2001 brand new.
I think we were lucky, but I have seen a few, that were pretty close in price.

How about a one of a kind 1997 29 sst with 502 mags,(107) hours, K&N's external steering everything anodized including the swim platformsink transom shower closetawesome stereo with 3 remotes for 65,000, outlawbabeB has seen this boat and it is in great shape

H2Xmark 07-14-2002 06:54 PM

I love Baja's, but I would not touch that, a 29 ft boat is to big and heavy for a single 454mag, SSSSlow to plane, top speed on GPS is high 50's maybe 60 or 61 in salt with a light light load, find one with twin engines or you will be wanting to sell it too

OUTLAW Drew 07-14-2002 06:55 PM

nice boat, but a little older than I wanted to go. Thanks though!

OUTLAW Drew 07-14-2002 06:58 PM

H2Xmark,
I think you're right. I made an offer on a twin engine today that is beautiful. We'll see tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be sea testing tomorrow afternoon.:D

GAMEMAN 07-14-2002 09:35 PM

THIS IS THE PROBLEM WITH THAT BOAT THINK ABOUT DOCKING IT WITH ONE ENGINE VERY VERY DIFFICULT IMPOSSIBLE IF WINDY WILL BE VERY SLOW 60 MAYBE AND RESALE WILL BE NILL AS FAR AS A 97 BE TO OLD IT IS THE SAME BOAT JUST DIFFERENT GRAPHICS ALSO WITH A SINGLE YOU WON'T GET THE BIG K PLANES MONSTER GAUGES ETC. WICH REALLY MAKES THE DIFFERENCE ALSO WITH A USED TWIN YOU WILL GET ALOT OF EXTRAS WICH COST ALOT STEREO BUOYS ROPES LIFEJACKETS JUST TO NAME A FEW NOT ALOT OF THOSE BOATS SOLD AFTER ALL THATS WHY THEY STILL HAVE IT JUST MY OPINION ON THE POSITIVE SIDE GAS WILL BE CHEAPER AND SO WILL INSURANCE

OUTLAW Drew 07-14-2002 09:53 PM

This is why I threw it open to all of you. Thank you for your input. Hopefully my offer will be accepted on the 2000 29' with twins tomorrow, and the fun really starts.

Plus......were not in this game for cheap gas anyways, right?

29 OUTLAW 07-14-2002 09:56 PM

What type of engines are in the one you're offering on tomorrow and what are they asking?

liquid asset 07-14-2002 10:19 PM

No, we paid 69k, NOT 59k, plus it was advertised at 75-79k. Our luck would have it that the guy selling was a new hire for American Airlines right after the 9/11 incident. He just bought a house and was really worried about getting laid off. Last one hired-first one fired. Not to mention he had traded in a fully paid off 25 Outlaw towards the 29 so, he pocketed about 30-40k.

It was pure luck & a lot of hassle. It came from TN with only a scratch the size of a fingernail.:D

If you don't buy one soon & we find a 36 or .38, we'd be glad to sell you ours :D

Definately go twin with a 29. You could go with one on a 25.
And yes, Liquid Assets boat is a good deal-I think tho it's a 24 or 25 unless he's talking about gameman's boat????

liquid asset 07-15-2002 01:46 PM

It is GAMEMAN's boat for sale he got a new 33, Mine is a 24

Well, I sea trialed the 29' with twin 454 mpi's last night. What a bad-ass boat. Loved it. Mechanical inspection came back today: Everything in perfect condition. I'll finish the paperwork and iron out the financing this week and hopefully take delivery on Saturday.
29 OUTLAW: They were originally asking $79,900 and then reduced to $68k over the weekend when I came across it. :)

I'll let you know when it's signed, sealed, and delivered.

Thanks for all the input!!!!

H2Xmark 07-16-2002 11:10 PM

good luck, sounds like a nice boat

baja john 07-17-2002 05:05 AM

otis311 07-19-2002 10:29 PM

OTIS.........I bought the boat. What a great deal on yours though. You won't have a problem selling it at all. I officially took posession of mine this morning, and just got home. I'm sure you can relate to the :D on my face right now. I can't wait until tomorrow morning.

Thanks for everyone's input. I look forward to seeing you either on the boards or on the water.

Drew.

Oh, probably will be changing my name as well to something more fitting.......
